Does somebody knows which Funkadelic people played on the Teegarden & van Winkle album that contains "God love and made Rock 'n Roll". I can hear Bernie, Garry Shider and I even think George on those sessions.

Any info?

Some of you already know that I have been struggling with the workload behind the scenes at SoulfulDetroit.

Same applies with the forum, and in recent weeks, I have also failed to deal properly with three or four issues therein. Moderating forums is not a task for serious people.

I owe Lowell Boileau. He took this on without having any interest in it. You don't come across many people in your lifetime like that.

SoulfulDetroit was a web site waiting to happen. By pure chance my silly idea got in there first. It looks fantastic however and that was down to Lowell Boileau.

All donations received from people in the UK will be forwarded to Lowell this week.

To all the nice people that I have met in Detroit, I say thank you.

A fond farewell too, to Ralph Terrana who helped give the site credibility in the early days.

SoulfulDetroit has a long way to go and I wish it and Lowell continued success.

Thanks
David

David, thank you SO much for creating with Lowell this magnificent website. Only the World Cup has managed to drag me away from it so far! Hopefully it will continue in the manner you are used to!

All the best,

This must be an April fools joke in advance.
I cannot believe this. It has become a MAJOR part of my existance and it has enabled a lot of great and wonderful people to unite.
What am I going to do with my time now?? Twiddle my thumbs or join an old age home for crazed music types.
Surely you must jest or perhaps had one too many pints. I wish that I could moderate this site. What about you Guido? You can do it with a bit of muscle, capice?????

This forum is THE best thing on the ENTIRE web, bar none!!!!!
So many interesting characters have emerged from this site that wouldn't have emerged otherwise.
Take Angus for instance. What is he supposed to do?? Go back to tending his sheep??
Reform the Royal Guardsmen??
And Poly Esther. She hasn't been on for a while but I recently spoke to her and she is rarin'to go with some new queries.
Wait til Preacherman gets a hold of this news!!!!
He will stir up fire and brimstone, I am sure.
Whyteguise needs a soap box to express his confused existance.
So please Mr Dave, let us keep it, huh ..huh...

David, This is a shocker.
I fully realise that this site is a time consuming job...it takes me long enough just to check postings, let alone get my head around all the stuff you have to do.
I hope that you continue to be involved. The site is a great place but won't be the same without your involvement and participation.
Best wishes as always, Graham

Say it ain't so David! Take a break - as long as you need. Everybody gets worn down by this. I do with the Fab Ruins forum sometimes. Don't call it farewell, just say you've gone fishing. That's what I do.

To the rest of the forum, I will keep this site and forum active. It is simply to valuable to not do so.

David, you are the heart and soul of this site, but everybody needs a rest and we all understand and will rejoice if and / or when you post "I'm Ba-aack!"

Gosh! When I said that in 1961, Diane Ross had, compared to Mary Wilson, eyes of steel, I never thought that it would trigger this!

It just supports what I have been trying to say: Lis Lands and a $1.50 will get you a cup of coffee.

Berry Gordy Jr. said: "Motown is a business. An ECONOMIC business. We must focus on that which will help Motown to grow and prosper.

I have sent no money to the soulfuldetroit.com cause. Why? Because I am a penny pinching, cheap, self centered egocentric who has no consideration for the other fellow. David, I don't blame you one bit for dumping this burden. Why should you work like a plow horse so we gleeful showoffs can post our magnificent thoughts, on the web, on the most elegant sight (technology wise: your partner in Detroit is a master of his craft!!!) I have ever seen?

The Dusenburg automoble was magnificent. It died and passed into history. I feel that this sight is in the same catagory, and will die for the same reason: The cheapest people in the world are the rich. We are all rich, we who sound off here.

A great film was made for Public Television. It was the very last film in which actor James Mason appeared. The title is "Dr. Fisher of Geneva."

If anyone really wants to understand why David is leaving, and, quite possibly, so is the forum, I would be pleased to send a bootleg copy of this film, free of charge. (with the exception of shipping and handling)

I guess that's it. I had hoped that all my comments would end up in some kind of electronic "Library of Congress." How nieve! You don't get something for nothing.

Thank you David. My experience has convinced me that being involved at the level that you have been, or Ralph, or Bobby Eli, or Carl Dixon, to name a few, is a horrific drain on the time and energy of the participant. Perhaps the plains of heaven which you arranged for all to dance upon are a bit too expensive to hope that they could live on.

I have always wanted to visit Scotland. My blood came from this wonderful place. When I arrive, I will look you up, David, and I will take you out to a fine restaurent, where we can drink warm ale and eat haggis, every night for a week, on me!

Love,

Mike McLean

David - as I write this, the world cup football is on the TV (France v Denmark). I do not care about it so much. I would rather be reading or chatting to my new friends right here on the forum about the important things in life. I think your attitude is quite right and I appreciate the work load must be horrendous at times. I hope sincerely, this is a glitch and you do not leave Soulful Detroit. It has certainly helped me change the direction I was going in my life. Destined to be in the bowels of a leading television station forever, I now have hope to exploit other things I wish to do, purely as a direct result of your wonderful efforts here.

I understand you may have thought hard about this decision, but respect your decision no matter what. And yes, we will go out for that beer when you are down here. You know where I am. Please think again and consider this my offer to help out in anyway. With a broadband connection I can upload in seconds. Having to wait for the dial up to load some of the longer threads must be a pain as indeed uploading your features. I am afraid I cannot write so expertly as some of you guys, about record labels and artists, so I cannot contribute in that way, but you could sub-contract to me other tasks!!

David - please 'Reconsider' aka 'Don't go'!!

Running and maintaining a web-site is indeed time consuming and can knock the shine off a labour of love. Moderating an internet chat group can also be a bind - be thankful that everyone gets on here! I have complete empathy with you David on both subjects. However, what you have created here you should be well proud of and we'll all do our best to keep it going because it involves the music we are all so passionate about....and we need to learn more! :-)

We have not heard any feedback from you regarding our feedback relative to your very untimely remark. And what about my webisode?????
We are not talking "chopped liver" here!!
It is also the genuine article to be shared by all of us and the many unreported readers of the forum. Who knows, B.G. himself or H.D.H. may be tuning in!!!
So reconsider and keep the dream alive.

DAVID,you are the ALAN FREED of this wonderful site,so please say as ALAN always said,"IT's NOT GOODBYE,IT's JUST SOLONG".ALAN started it all,and you carried it all to develope and keep it going right here,THE FORUM.All the great super stars names that appear here, were the brave doings of ALAN FREED,over 50 yrs.ago.The history lesson given by you and all on this site, would only be a name, and existing, but you and Alan kept them in the limelite, and kept their star shinning brite. Here is probably the most important qoute that brought this to us from you and the FORUM.Well, the big fight is over and you and I have won...if ther was really a fight at all.It seems to me,as I am sure it does to you, that ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC is here to stay.A year ago,the cridics were hollering loud and long that ROCK AND ROLL MUSIC would never last. But you and I knew better. This is the exciting dance music of today's teenage generation.(Alan Freed and David Glasgow brought it to you and it belongs to you.)I am deeply greatful for the success that you have made possible and I hope and pray that we will be ROCKING and ROLLING together for a long time to come. So,you see DAVID,ROCK and ROLL,and the FORUM are here to stay,it will never die!!! Thank you DAVID GLASGOW and ALAN FREED. STEVE "THE COUNT"

As I said above, this site *will* go on, if nothing else than a tribute to David's great effort. While David takes a break [and I hope that's the Scottish translation for farewell] I need your help.

How? Number one, keep participating on this forum. In spite of what all David and I may have done, it is your wonderful contributions to this forum that have given this website its very breath of life. Without you this is just another website in the vast reaches of the internet. This website was conceived as a communal artwork and you are the artists as much as David and I are by participating in the forum.

Number two, consider authoring a webisode like Ralph, Graham and David have done so well. It is not too difficult. Tell your story concisely, punctuated by a picture every couple of paragraphs. You get me the story and the pictures and I will make it sing.

Number three, I need one or two people who are knowledgeable about the subject and read this forum regularly to act as moderators for the forum. It requires almost no work since this forum is quite well behaved, but it means zapping any name calling, unsubstantiated allegations, advertising, or the random nazi or other outside troublemakers that can occasionally occur. If this is something someone would be interested in, please do not respond here, but email me at EmailLowell@bhere.com. Editing or removing a message takes about two minutes at the most. However, I do need your help on this as I cannot keep up on everything here, as much as I would like to, as I have my hands full with the Discuss Detroit forum.

Number four. Many of you have generously contributed to the ongoing costs of this project and your generosity has been greatly appreciated. Being a web artist is a bit like being a virtual street musician, so if anyone cares to toss a couple of pennies in the hat...

No matter what, the show goes on!
