For those of you who haven't seen my postings on the Fabulous Ruins of Detroit message forum:

I represent a small group of people who are attempting to acquire the former Fortune Records studio/office at 3942 Third Avenue from the current owner. The building is sans roof and interior walls but is salvageable. Our plans are to rehab and expand the building, and then turn it into a venue like no other -- one with an authentic historical tie-in to the city's rich blues and R&B heritage. We are seeking investors to climb on board... we have big dreams and well-thought-out plans, but somewhat limited cash flow. Here's your chance to get in on the ground floor of a unique venture in an up-and-coming area.

As detailed in soulfuldetroit.com, Fortune moved into the building at 3942 Third in late 1956. The structure remained the company's office until the late 1980s. Many, many incredible recordings were made there, including the memorable "Mind Over Matter" by Nolan Strong and the Diablos (1962) and some 1960 tracks by John Lee Hooker. Fortune was Detroit's biggest independent label before the rise of Motown in the early '60s.

Those who are interested or who want more information should contact me immediately. We will be preparing an offer within a week or so. Asking price is $30,000 but we hope to get it for less. The current owner has expressed the intent to demolish this historic building very soon if the property isn't sold to a new owner.

Save Fortune Records!
