Is anyone aware that Lee Garrett had a radio show on WCHB, I believe. He was known as The Rockin Mr G. Prior to this he lived in Philly where I made his acquqintance in the sixties.
I met him at the old Jamie Studios where Ronnie Baker and Myself were hired to play on his record called " Linda Sue" We have remained friends ever since. When Len Barry and I started a band called Len Barry and the Barrymores, Lee used to always come and sit in.
Lee, who is visually challenged, one day came to the bar that Len's dad owned , and where we honed our craft, and his dad rang me up to say that there was a blind "panhandler" there waiting to see me, not knowing that he was scheduled to sing with us that night!!! Very soon after , he was hired by radio station WHAT in Philly and his show became very popular.he later moved to Detroit, where he got into radio there.
He befriended Stevie Wonder and together they wrote Signed, sealed delivered, Lets get serious and Its a shame. In the seventies he recorded an album for Chrysalis including Heart be still.
He now lives in Oregon of all places, but comes to visit whenever he comes East, the last time being last March. He is quite the character and a joy to have around.
Also regarding Detroit radio, CKLW and Rosalie Trombley, its program director at the time were directly responsible for putting my song Sideshow over the tpo thus making it a full blown hit. The station carried a lot of power in more ways than one in those days and it was in Windsor Ontario, just across the river from Detroit.
Then there was Martha Jean the Queen who was very influential .
Her daughter Diane Steinberg, recorded a one off album for atlantic produced by the Young Professionals who were Lebaron Taylor, Phil Hurtt, Tony Bell And Bunny Sigler
By for now

I remember a great single from 1976 by Lee Garrett called You're My Everything. I couldn't stop playing it.... remember that one?
