I have couple of 45s listed on the Pioneer label and guess it was an off-shoot of the studio. Any comments/additions on these?
Pioneer 2103 - Bill Murray - Merry Christmas/instrumental
Pioneer 2109 - Gambrells - Jive Talk/?
Regards, Graham

I believe that Bill Murray was a comedian/ mc who used to mc the early Motortown Revue shows. I have seen him back in the day doing just that. His name has appeared on some of the early marquees ie, tha Apollo and Uptown and I believe it is on the cover of the first Motown revue live album, me thinks!!

Graham,
I'll send Alan Sussman an e-mail and see if he will come on the forum to comment on this.

That's him!! That's the guy!!!
He is in fact, the Motown MC. I actually met him on occasion on the road and in Phily.
Funny man indeed!!

Guys
Bill 'Winehead' Murray had a single on Anna - 'Big Time Spender'!
I've got the Gambrells 45:
811P-2109 - 'Jive Talk' (Wr. Carol Clayton, Arr. Milt Olson) - 4TKM-0973 & PRSD-2109 Tru-Soul Pub. BMI
- 'Find A Love' (Wr. Pat Hunt, same arr.) - U4KM-2876 & PRSD-2110
Label is gold with black lettering. I think the record was one of these 45s deemed to be rare and only a small quantity known to exist (like Danny Moore on Allrite), but then boxes of them were discovered and the price dropped accordingly!

I'm guessing that was after you bought it, Ian? Thanks for mailing the label details. I have the "Merry Christams" 45 but it's pretty dire, as you can probably imagine. Fortunately it only cost me a few cents. Ian - wanna swop for The Gambrells?!!!!

I played the Bill Murray 45 this morning - a painful experience it was too! I'm sure it's not the same guy, this Christmas song sounds like Pat Boone.

Maybe it was the other Bill Murray... (although, he'd only have been 12 at the time!)

In my defence, I'd only say I had nothing valuable to add to the conversation, but the forum is too good to resist! 8-}

even I didn't know what that 'emoticon' meant!

I'll add it to my collection. Forum members - how sad can I get if I collect label scans?

Nothing wrong with that! I heard a story about a very sad collector. Apparently each time he meets a woman he likes, she instantly loses interest when he proudly tells her all about his prize collection of milk bottles.
