The first recording session, and later, mixing was for Marvin & Tammi. they were, "ain't no moutain high enough" and "Ain't nothing like the real thing". Great memories! That's when I met two new writter signed to Motown. Ashford and Simpson. we became great friends.

Actually I did know Tammi in Philly, when she was known as Tammy Montgomery(real name Thomasina Montgomery)
She actually came to my house several times when I lived in North Philly. I have been on shows with her when she had her song I Tried, On James Browns' Try Me label which received moderate airplay in Philly. I had a band for a while at a club called The Peppermint Stick, and she sat in with us on occasion. We were pretty tight for a while, and then she went to do the Motown thing.
Several people were abusive toward her including James Brown and David Ruffin.
I know that she lived with David Ruffin for a while and that he used to beat her.
There have been times when he was so enraged, probably due to the ingestion of cocaine, that he actually drove his motorcycle into the house and proceeded to beat her up!!!
Some believe that this was the primary cause of her brain tumor. Long live her music, and her memory.

I made a mistake. It was "I cried " and "If you dont think" which was on Try Me records .Prior to this she recorded for Scepter with the song "If you see Bill, and "Voice of Experience " and "If I should marry you on Chess.
Incidentally, she is buried at Mount Lawn Cemetary, right outside of Philly. Bessie Smith is buried there and so is the wife of yours truly here.
