eric silvenis kindly sent me this photograph of big mack's studio at 7018 west warren. you can see the vacant lot on the 'northern soul tour'!

anyway this was one of the main objectives of the web site when it was launched...to hope that somebody out there would have photographs of some of the missing buildings.

so thanks a million eric and welcome to the forum.

Hi Eric,
How are things in Detroit? Found that box of LaBeat records yet? LOL
I'd really like a copy of Bob and Fred "I'll Be On My Way" on Big Mack. Do you think it was Fred Bridges and Robert Eaton?
Cheers,
Graham

Hi Graham

I've got it listed as R Eaton & F Bridges too!

A couple of months back in 'That Beating Rhythm' (record shop in Manchester), I found an odd record on Big Mack. It was a (unfortunately) re-release of the following on RED vinyl:

823M 3911 Manhattens - The Feeling Is Mutual (Wr. Donald Calloway, Prod. Ed McCoy, Big Mac Music) PK4M 3911
823M 3912 " - Why Should I Cry (same credits) PK4M 3912

A bit doowapish! Perhaps I should have bought it!

Ian,

That Manhattens single would have been issued
in 1963 going by the matrix number - that'd be
why it's a bit doowoppish.

Thanks Davie

I'm sure I missed lots of other records by not buying on a whim. Same shop once had:

Star Maker S1931 - Deans - (Lady Of The) Caravan

A couple of weeks later, the track appeared on one of the Goldmine cds and the single was, no doubt, snapped up.

The Deans' Lady of The Caravan is also on the (notorious?) Marginal "Rare Soul From Detroit" Vol 8, by the way.

When I was selling the Goldmine CD (Detroit - the Northern Soul Years) on eBay a few months back, I had a couple of enquiries asking whether it was that same track, so I guess a few people already knew it.

The Manhattans 45 was released c. 10/1963.
I recently saw The Deans 45 priced at a hundred quid; it's a really nice song. The Deans also had "You Got Me Baby" on Starmaker.
Another 45 on Starmaker worth looking out for is "Pink Lips/Angry Angel" by The Caravelles. It's quite easy to find as they pressed up a lot of copies. But I haven't heard their "Their Devil With An Angel Smile" (don't know flip title) - Anyone got a copy?
Cheers, Graham

The Deans - "(Lady of the) caravan" was bootlegged, be warned......thinner wax and smaller font/faded print than the real thing.
