graham
in one of the great 20 grand adverts you sent me, one of the headlining groups in 1968 were the stylists.

what do you know of them?

In a word - Nothing. I'm guessing that they may have recorded under another name. I certainly don't recall ever seeing a 45 by Them. Please refresh my memory - were they on a revue of Solid Hitbound, or another company?

My Motown bias gives me this......

The Stylists
VIP 25066 What Is Love/Where Did The Children Go (June 1971)

Both sides written by Pete Moore, J Barnett and F Bursey (I am tempted to say Frank but I don't know for sure). Produced by Pete Moore and Terry Johnson and arranged by David Van DePitte and Willie Shorter.

Both songs were recorded about Jan 1971 and I can trace two earlier demo's on....The Only World I've Got and I've Made A Fool Of Me....

I'm guessing the 20 Grand ad' is from 1966/67, so I doubt The Stylists would have remained together for 4 years without ever recording any songs - unless they were signed with Motown back in 67-ish.

Hi David,

The F. Bursey in the writer credits of the
Stylists disc is probably Fleury Bursey.
Don't know much about him other than that he
had a couple ot tracks on those odd "Motorcity
Magic" albums issued about 10 years ago by
Charly.

I used to have the Stylists VIP disc years
ago - it's pleasant enough but nothing exceptional. One for Motown completists only.
It's years since I heard those Charly albums
so I can't remember what the Fleury Bursey tracks
were like.

I've a feeling Bursey has some other credits - I'll have to get back to you on this.

The site looks excellent - congratulations !

Davie Gordon
