I was deeply saddened today with news of the passing of Mikki Farrow, who died yesterday, while on the list for a liver transplant.
She recorded various songs that have been Northern favourites, as well as "Love Emergency" which charted in the states in the mid eighties.
She was a well respected songwriter and all around background vocalist , having recorded early on with Gamble and Huff, starting with
I just cant stop dancin' by Archie Bell and the Drells, all of the Jerry Butler sessions including The Ice man Cometh, and Ice on Ice, as well as co-writing several Jerry Butler classics.
Mikki was born in Detroit, where she got into music at an early age.
In the mid sixties she met and married music legend, Mike Terry.
She had also been a participant in Jerry Butlers' writers'workshop in Chicago.
Around 1968, she came to Philly and got involved with the fledgeling Sound of Philadelphia.
In the late eighties, she went back to Chicago and reconnected with another music legend Billy Butler, the brother of Jerry Butler.
They subsequently dated and married, and moved back to Philly, where Mikki started an evangelistical ministry, and pursued her love of Gospel music and to spread the word.
They were both dear friends of ours and shared many wonderful , and spiritual times together.
Mikki leaves behind her husband Billy, two daughters, Ebony and Dawn, several grandchildren, her mother, and a host of relatives and friends.
Mikki will truly be missed.

David,
I will find a photo and post it as soon as I locate one in my collection in Philly.
I will also try to get some from Billy B.

I've been checking the forum for a few weeks now
and when i saw "Mikki Farrow" just now i mentally punched the air thinking "At last ,i can tell her how great i think she is!". I wanted to tell her how much i love her contribution to Jerry Butler's SUPER/ACE
"(Strange)I still love you" and how overlooked it was along with many other gems she was involved in.
My deepest sympathy to her family and friends.

I neglected to mention that the labels that she recorded for in the eighties were, Pop Art and Emerald. Love Emergency on Pop Art started to create quite a stir, and she toured promoting it.
Also I spoke to Mike T. today to inform him of her passing.
As I had mentioned, I will post photos.
She may have been small in stature, about four feet eleven inches, but big on talent.

I was very saddened and disheartened by the news of the passing of Mikki Farrell, who was a dear friend of mine in the days of philadelphia 70's when The Philly International Records family was riding high. Mikki and I used to have dinner together, write together and trade funny stories. She was fun, smart, witty, talented and always beautiful. She gave me a lot of wisdom about the business and I will never forget her personal concerns for my growth and associations. To the family, " AN ANGEL IS IN HEAVEN WRITING FOR THE GLORIOUS CHOIR AND IT WILL ECHO BACK TO ALL OF US FOREVER". MIKKI, we will always love and miss you and that great smile. God Bless you always
