The reason I asked David to post it was because Eugene Davis wrote it - which Davis is that? The "Billy The Kid" one?
Anyone know anything about Flaming Arrow?
Best wishes, Graham

re flaming arrow: i suspect that it was part of the magic city/burt/crow family of labels. lots of good singles on the label, including several by gloria walker.

Crow was distributed by Flaming Arrow, and at least one song--Jumpin' With Popeye--appears on both labels. (Note that there are two completely different instrumentals on Crow with this title. The one that also appears on Flaming Arrow is the funk one that is the B-side of James Havior's great Northern piece, Girl, Girl, Girl).

Joe

Do you have discographies for Crow and Flaming Arrow? I've got nothing at all from Crow - a new one on me - and only the following for Flaming Arrow:

35 - Chevelles - The Gallop/Talking About My Baby
38 - Nancy Butts - Go On To Her/Let Me Be Free
? - Gloria Walker - Talking About My Baby

Thanks,

Ian

Here's what I know about Flaming Arrow releases, for what it's worth:

26 Mighty Chevelles--Bus Stop/?

35 Chevelles--Gallop/Gloria Walker--Talkin' About My Baby

36 Gloria Walker--Please Don't Desert Me Baby/Need of You

37 Gloria Walker--Walking with My New Love/You Hit the Spot, Baby

38 Nancy Butts--Go on to Her/You're Gonna Need Somebody

39 Nancy Butts--Let Me Be Set Free/Please, Please Tell Me

47 Corzette Holly--Holding My Hand/James Havior--Jumpin' with Popeye

?? Nancy Butts--I Want to Hold Your Hand, Baby/?

226 Debbie S.--Try My Love (80s release--same label?)

238 Angela Davis and the Chevelle Band--Love Bumpin'/Love Bumpin' Pt. 2

There's also an LP by the Mighty Chevelles called Black Gold, which has been reissued.

As to Crow records, this info is pretty sketchy, but:

39 James Havior--Girl, Girl, Girl/Jumpin' with Popeye

43 Jessie Jones--My Mother and, Yes, My Father/Jumpin' with Popeye (dif. song from Havior's)

?? Joseph Webster--My Love Is So Strong/??

?? Firebirds--Zip It Down and Throw It Out/??

?? ??--Work Out Like You Wanta/??

If I figure out how to do scans, I'll post the Crow label.

Here's a look at the Crow label. Note that I got the words Father and Mother reversed in my discographic notes above.

I Also have this listed on Flaming Arrow, with a date of 1968;

C-50. J Star - Hot Pants/Sweet Sweet Thing

I can't remember where I got this info' from though. Maybe it's on Crow!
Wasn't the Burt label issued out of Memphis?
Graham
