Once again... thanks to David & Lowell for a wonderful site. Detroit Heaven!

Does anyone have any info on the Torch label? I have the following record:

David Vance - Be Mine Again - T-101 ZTSC 121625
How Can I Know ZTSC 121626

Both sides are written by David who sounds white but has, nevertheless, a great voice. Both sides are mid-tempo ballads with a full orchestral treatment - lots of brass and even a harp - and the songs have a real ending, no fading out here!

Both songs are Solid Hitbound productions and published by Charisma. Perhaps the label is another Don Davis item?

i would be interested to see a scan of this label.

davie gordon or graham finch may have heard of it, but it is certainly not in my database.

if you've got a scanner i'll tell you how to upload.

I had a scanner on the old PC but it won't work on the new one! Progress eh! I might be visiting a friend tomorrow to try and connect his hifi to his computer so he can transfer his vinyl to CDs. I know he has a scanner so I could perhaps use his. In which case, please tell me how to upload it!

The disc is a DJ copy so I don't even know the colour of the label.

your image must be smaller than 50k.

you'll get the detail in the 'how to get fancy' link at the left hand side of the screen.

scroll down to 'images, attachments & clipart'.

Hi Ian,

Sorry I can't add anything to this - it's a new one to me.

Hi again,

Hopefully, with a bit of luck, you might see a label scan here!

How do you get on to the BMI site? I've never seen that one. I once had a look at the (I think) Billboard site but they charged for a search down their database.

I'll try a smaller scan next time. This one seems to have a dream of being an album!

Ian,

Re the BMI database.

1. go to bmi.com

the first screen that comes up has a search field
in the top left hand corner.

To check a song key in the title in the search
field then click on "GO"

If you want to check out what they hold on any
given writer click on "Writer" just under the search field.

For a publisher do the same except click on "Publisher"

There's an "accept" or "decline" button to say
that you agree to abide by BMI's database rules
- just click on "accept" and away you go ..

The artist section is woefully incomplete but
there's still a goldmine of information available
- read the help pages as they'll guide you through
how to input queries correctly. Getting used to
using spaces instead of punctuation marks takes a bit of practice.

Happy hunting !

Davie & David

Thanks a million for info on BMI database. I've found a new toy!

It's a pity you have no Chicago sister website! (Perhaps a photographing holiday for future years if you can persuade Ms. Hines to drive that far, David!) I've just tried Jerry J. Murray (another passion of mine) on BMI. And it came up with the goods! There are slight links with Detroit and Jerryo too!

i've also got a huge database on chicago. but i ain't got a huge amount of time.

but chicago still can't hold a candle to the motor city.

and i'm not being biased.

detroit was unbelievable.

I've met David Vance. He either was (or perhaps still is) a well-known photographer in the Miami area. He's a Florida guy who was up in Detroit around the same time as the Shaggs, and did some recording there. I think he had aspirations of becoming the next Jay Black. Another Miami act -- I believe it was the Nomads (I'll have to check)-- was supposed to have a release on Torch, but I don't think it ever came about.
