Good idea for a thread, Brian!

I heard that Mary Wilson went home and cried herself to sleep the night the Supremes cut WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO. She hated the song.

Also, the Reflections hated ROMEO & JULIET when they first heard it... then it was a hit.

Levi Stubbs wasn't convinced REACH OUT.. was his kind of song, until it was suggested to him he might "sing it like Bob Dylan"

Just a few off the top of my head (where there used to be hair)

I have some comments on that one.
Bobby Smith of the Spinners told me personally that he hated I'll be around, and Eddie Levert of the O'Jays told me that he hated Backstabbers. Those comments were made shortly after recording them!! I know that Tina Turner hated What's love got to do with it and the Supremes hated Where did our love go also. Those songs all wenton to be benchmark songs for those artistes.
That just goes to show you that the artiste should always trust a god producers' better judgement!

i must admit i always look for the producers credit when scanning comp albums ,thats how i find
a lot of stuff .is it the producer or the singer?
its a bit like what came first the chicken or the egg.with the philly sound i found you knew within the first 10 seconds ,they always sounded good and
blew your mind away by the end. fancy hating "backstabbers" phillys version of "smiling faces sometimes" or was it the other way round? i remember towards the end of my first marriage ,i used to play 992 arguements LOUD .she used to think the record great ,but i never figgered if
she got the message. fancy you could have spent your whole life speaking through records without
communicating verberly

Hi folks. When I played on Still Waters Run Deep for the Four Tops, I thought the entire groove sounded backwards and a little strange. When I started hearing it on the radio, it sounded great! I guess different strokes for different folks!

Denns,
the Still Waters project remains one of my brother's all time favorite projects with Frank Wilson.
