Ernest Banyan has posted this and thought it would be appropriate to give it a thread on its own:

I was listening to a Motown Internet radio station (right now as a matter of fact)http://www.live365.com/stations/291246 , and as a long time bassist , I was reminded of the controversy surrounding MS Kaye. I am glad that this matter was resolved in court. I'm listening right now and I can tell the difference between a "PickPlayer" and My main man James Jamerson. I was listening, thinking about the claims the Ms Kaye has made , and it made me mad again. But I'm glad I came (great site ... I'm 53 )here and found this matter to be resolved.

PS thank you Allan for the great book , I got it 12 years ago and can't find anywhere .

Thanks Ernest for reminding us about Live365. I listen to this on my overnight shift frquently.

I think will become a regular station for many of us. So glad Ernest mentioned it. Thing is, I was thinking of doing a station a few months ago, but I have other projects I am doing right now. I do not quite understand the legal aspect of this, but I know for sure, I would buy stuff based on what I would hear on these stations. It is a great advertisement. I think they are well organised this Live365 bunch.

For you technology wizards.....can you tell this old fashioned man whether they mentioned that Jimmy Mack was an alternative mix..not the common one...

Top of pageBottom of page   By Carl Dixon London (62.31.40.173 - 62.31.40.173) on Thursday, March 14, 2002 - 12:02 pm:

It has gone from the playlist sadly! I have a version on a cd comp that is different to the original hit version - or so it seems. Longer maybe? I notice on this Live365, that due to the compression, the bass stands out and I can try and pluck along on my bass guitar quite well. Not 'well' as in playing, but well because I can hear it.

You know I never tire of hearing I Can't Help Myself.

Love that different mix that Harry found for the box set with the extra backing vocals...jeez, this is it.

Harry went for this after hearing the full instrumental version which has Mike Terry farting and burping all over the place....fabulous.
love the ending with Levi...no, no, no no,

There is a different 45 version on 7 rooms of gloom on it too...whihc was just played.

Let me tell you about Would I love You...apparently it is played to death on radio in Philly (bobby's home town) and no one could buy it on a current compilation so it had to be put onthe Lost and Found because of demand. I like it when the public speak!!!

Blimey a Miss Ross classic.....Dark Side of The World....flip to Reach Out and Touch and the flip is what we guys would play!!

Top of pageBottom of page   By John Lester (213.122.195.192 - 213.122.195.192) on Thursday, March 14, 2002 - 01:11 pm:

Imagine the Velvelettes singing this...

You Lost THe Sweetet Boy

BUT IN FRENCH

The blurb from the radio station talks about Never Leave Your Baby's Side being on Watchout...it wasn't. However, th song opens with "WATCHOUT"..anyone notice Motown's obvious error in missing that song off!!

Hi Guys

Just dropped in and found I missed a whole saga! I've been listening to 365 for quite a while now. Somebody asked if it's legal... Apparently - or so they claim, although the agreement is carefully worded to put all the onus on the "broadcaster" that everything is fully above board. (Of course it is, Officer!)

The agreement states:

"You should only include in your Internet Radio Programs sound recordings that are authorized for performance in the United States."

Also

[You assert that] "neither your Internet Radio Programs nor any parts thereof infringe upon the copyright or any other statutory or common-law intellectual property rights"

And... [you assert that]

"you own or control all rights in any such sound recording including all rights in the underlying musical composition; or

ii. [A] all writers of the songs embodied in the sound recording are affiliated with BMI, ASCAP or SESAC;"

The disclaimer looks about as legally sound as a £3 note to me.

LOL

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ritchie (62.254.0.6 - 62.254.0.6) on Thursday, March 14, 2002 - 01:29 pm:

Hi John

You and Bobby are on dial-up connections but your signal has further to travel. Your disruptions will be due to congestion, as your feed is being routed much further.

I don't want to pour cold water on Broadband - I've got it - it's better but sometimes you still get breaks in the feed. But - I've recorded entire shows off 365 - so you can do it!

Top of pageBottom of page   By Ritchie (62.254.0.6 - 62.254.0.6) on Thursday, March 14, 2002 - 01:31 pm:

John -

By the way. My recommendation... bin your dial-up modem and go for Broadband. It's worth it - but get a firewall to protect yourself against hackers, and some decent virus scanning software.

That CP Spencer was great!! Still breaking up. Maybe I need a Valium. It may help.

one of the great advantages i found with broadband is the speed with which i can go in and out of web pages.

i can also stay on-line without fear of the system crashing.

this was vital for this project as it takes a lot of editing and uploading to get things as right as you can make them.

yes, ritchie, i too have found buffering on broadband. but it is a million times less painful than on a 56k modem.

i watched a video of a detroit tv programme several months ago (on the subject of sprawl...the topic which has left detroit severely weakened) and it never interupted once. a minor miracle i thought.

john i promise you..you are 'too into this' to have anything less than the best technology to date. which seems to be broadband.

i could never go back to 56k...NO WAY.

Top of pageBottom of page   By david, glasgow, scotland (213.122.38.67 - 213.122.38.67) on Thursday, March 14, 2002 - 01:51 pm:

p.s. it think it would be helpful if any experts out there could enlighten us from time to time on matters/products which could make our surfing experience even better than it already is.

many of us (myself definitely included) kind of fumble about in the dark and i don't believe we get the best use of this technology.

I second that! As I type this, I'm on the Detroit Forum while moderating another Board at the same time. Try doing that on a dial-up!

Make sure your modem is configured to be the correct speed in your modem properties, was something I was told. Do not over state its speed or capabilities. I have been listening to this for at least 2 hours and not one break up! I use Blueyonder, down here in London.

John - do you reckon a compilation of the different language recordings would be viable? Remember, most of these classic songs, the world knows their lyrics and understands basically what they mean. I am sure The Linguaphone Institute would be interested, because I imagine it would be unfair competition! For example: Lesson one the alphabet - 'ABC', Lesson two general shopping - 'Shop around', Lesson three survival techniques - 'SOS', Lesson four buying shoes - 'Just walk in my shoes', Lesson five Hotel accommodation - 'Seven rooms of gloom', Lesson six proposing - 'Third finger, left hand........

The gas man has just been and serviced the appliance and I am waiting for a new carpet to be delivered and fitted!
