Studios of Sixties Detroit
Comparatively Speaking

My own city, Glasgow, is famous for it's interest in music.

After World War two, the city was peppered with dance halls and over the years it has been rated highly amongst artists as THE place to enjoy playing a gig. It is also rated as the most hostile environment to play in, if you're not up to scratch.

In the mid sixties Glasgow had a population of one million, about two thirds of that of the city of Detroit.

There was one subtle difference however. Detroit had over 60 Recording Studios and many hundreds of record labels; while Glasgow had virtually nothing.

What an extraordinary place Detroit must have been!
