The Cissy-Meters Sophisticated Cissy-Meters The Horse-Cliff Nobles The Walk- Let's Stomp-Bobby Comstock(The Stomp WAS a dance!) Continental Walk- Continental Strut- Hully Gully Baby-Dovells The Climb- Do The Clam-Elvis Presley The Philley Freeze- The Freeze- Hokey Pokey-Velvelettes The Shim-Sham Shimmy- Shimmy Like Kate-Olympics Shimmy,Shimmy Ko-Ko Bop-Little Anthony & Imperials Boss Town Shuffle- The Phillie-M&M & Peanuts Weegee Walk-Megatrons(?) The Funky Four Corners- Bristol Stomp-Dovells Boston Monkey-Billy Butler Let's Turkey Trot-Little Eva The Bounce-Olympics The Screw-Crystals Do The Pig-Merced Blue Notes Get On The Good Foot-James Brown (anybody out there remember how to do "The Good Foot"?) There are hundreds more! I have to admitI don't really like all of these, and I never mastered the steps of most of them. Also, as you might have guessed - many of these "dances" didn't catch on with very many people. I'm sure I've forgotten a lot of songs by James Brown that were supposed to introduce dances. Was "The Popcorn" a dance? I think there was at least one song released on "The Froog", but I can't remember who the artists were. I believe it was a male "British Invasion" group.

Hey wasn't there one called THE STROLL? Just listened to this song today...PEPPERMINT TWIST. And what about THE HAND JIVE...I think that's what it is called....I remember that from GREASE. MICKEY'S MONKEY-The Miracles I think there was a BUNNY HOP dance too...don't know if there was a song to it. Some ideas I am getting from my mum and brother. Oh, wait...THE BUMP-Commodores (Message edited by LadyMystique on April 18, 2004) |

Cool Jerk. Tighten Up. The Twist. Lady Mystique...yes there was a dance and a song (by The Diamonds) called "The Stroll". The dance is the grandaddy of the Soul Train Line - two lines of men and women facing each other, one couple strolling down the center - does this sound familiar? Fun dance, cool song.

I remember watching them dance to "The Walk" by Jimmy McCracklin and "The Freeze" by Tony & Joe on American Bandstand. Hey, Robb K, I bet you've flipped "It's Uncle Willie" over to listen to "Teardrops Are Falling"; one of my all-time favorite records. |

Yes, Lenny, I like "Teardrops Are Falling" much better. It's the typical Curtis Mayfiled-style Chicago Sound that along with "The Motown Sound" is my favourite music. I have "Teardrops" on about 40 different tapes, while "Uncle Willie" is only on 2 or 3. Here's another "H.B. Goose Step" by The Rivieras. Was that a dance introduced by The American Nazi Party? Or was it an X-rated dance, sexier than The Lambada??? |

All great listings here above. Many of these were better songs and kool beats then they were a dance. Remember the, BUG CHICKEN INKSTER SHUFFLE N--RO BOP MADISON PHILLY FREEZE TWIST & FREEZE OLD LADY POPEYE BUMP DETROIT SHAKE DOWN and so many more. Today the kids have no dance steps or routines, and no names for their dances, just do whatever you think looks kool and be sure to wear pants with the krotch down to you shoe laces. I used to love dancing the slow dances with LYNN'S girl, she had a boob in the middle of her back which kame in handy for dancing. "COUNT" |

Lady Love: the North Philly version of the Horse is kinda hard to explain. If you know what the Crossfire looks like then that will help. We did a modified crossfire and held our arms chest high mimicking holding the reins of a horse. We incorporated a modified pony but did not leave the floor and "rode" the horse in a circle and went up back and forth. Also, you used your arms to "whip" the horse's side from time to time. The dance was only done to the record and played out when the record did. Again, it's hard to explain and when Eli gets his Northern Club going then I'll show you in person. To E: Hint, hint. |
