Hi everyone!

Ok, which movie soundtracks do you love, but they are from a movie that either you couldn't stand or didn't like?

Mine are:

Superfly..I loved Curtis Mayfield's soundtrack.
Not too crazy about the flick! Ron Oneal was cute though.

Woman in Red..My hubby and I saw this flick on our first date. The restaurant was horrible, he took me fishing earlier which was a smelly first experience, then we saw Woman in Red with Gene Wilder. Afterwards we looked at each other and said..BLEEHHH! I loved Gene Wilder, but this was not one of my favorites by him! BUT I LOVED THE SOUNDTRACK! Stevie was great.
I still have the album...and the man with whom I had the rotten first date with!!! Hmmm maybe another thread? :-) :-)

I agree about Superfly. :-)

The Mack
Cotton Comes to Harlem
Claudine (movie was OK, but the soundtrack was better IMHO)
Coffy
Foxy Brown
The one where Issac Hayes acted...I think it was TRUCK TURNER
Shaft (although Richard Roundtree was a beautiful sight to see!)
Endless Love (although the song was played so much, it is still timeless)

If I think of anymore I will let you know! :-)

Yeah Richard...tall, dark AND handsome! When he wore the all-black leather suit in the finale, I forgot about the rest of the movie!

LadyMystique you didn't like Coffy????? The soundtrack was awesome but I think the movie is one of the best of that era and that genre...
Cotton Comes To Harlem was pretty good too...
In fact from your list the only one where I truly agree with you is Endless LOve although I also hated the music LOL Too schmalzy for my ears...

Wonder B...I liked COFFY, but I thought the soundtrack was better. In fact, the movies I have mentioned I still watch, but IMO the music was better.

OK Lady Mystique, from the title of the thread, I thought you didn't like those movies that much LOL

Always hard to fully get the meaning (complete with emotions) of a post on the net... LOL

Wonder B...I am a HUGE fan of these films (you should see my collection and growing), but IMO the music seemed to stand out in these movies more than the story/plot of the movie. I guess that's what made them what they are! :-)

If I misinterpreted the thread, excuse me. :-)

Yes you are right LadyM... those music will stay in our ears for a long time and many people who have never seen those movies know the music nonetheless...
I am a huge fan of those movies (I had posted a rather lengthy list of what I have on Laserdisc and DVD on the old forum! LOL)

The soundtrack to the film Barbershop was not bad, it includes the great cut by Next called "See You". The film was average at best.

Moving away from soul orientated movie soundtracks, I wonder if anyone here is also a fan of orchestrated soundtracks.

The film Always directed by Speilberg was an ok film but features a wonderful soundtrack by one of my heroes John Williams.

Field of dreams, good film, terrific soundtrack by James Horner.

Titanic, ok film, good soundtrack, by James Horner.

I don't think I've drifted off subject, just diversified it a little. :-))

Being the Saturday Night Fever junkie that I am I was dissapointed with the STAYIN' ALIVE movie but the soundtrack was good.

...and contrary to popular opinion, I liked the Village People movie 'Cant Stop The Music' but especially the soundtrack. It was corny movie but the dance routines were just...'gay'...LOL. (no offense).

I watched a re-run of Staying Alive the other day and in my mind the movie sucked... it still does but as you say Lady M, the music is not so bad...
Can't Stop The Music is an awful film just as Thank God It's Friday... LOL But if you lived those times, they'll make you feel good anyway... LOL
It made me remember when we used to prepare ourselves before going to the disco... everything had to be perfect LOL Way too funny when you think of it now... kids don't dress anymore when they go out to party LOL

Dyva and Wonder B...undress is right...just go in with a bikini and heels (which I have seen!)and your man with trousers falling off the azz and a white tank top! :-)

I remember one of my cousins had a HUGE natural and used to stay in the mirror for HOURS sheening his hair in the bathroom and his date be in my bedroom sheening her braids and changing outfits, just so she can "coordinate" with him...it was annoying then because at my age I couldn't understand it, but when you look back on it, it is pretty funny!

Oooooooops Dyvanaye... sorry 'bout that! LOL
Yes the good ole days of dressing up...
Nowadays with the pants barely hangin' off the azzes, it's just a competition on who will look the worst... and believe me it's hard to pick a winner! LOOOOOL It's a dead tie! LOL

The film Bullit starring perhaps the coolest guy that ever lived Steve McQueen was an ok film, remembered of course for the car chase, but that soundtrack..........ohh, that soundtrack by Lalo Schiffrin. Wow.
