LadyMystique, Maybe he thinks of himself as making a comeback, maybe he thinks that everyone has forgotten about him, and he wants everyone to know he's back. LadyM, I been seeing his video on BET, VHI and MTV2 late nights. I see more of it on BET's Music For Grown Folks than I see it anywhere else. I'm like you and I'll say "What Comeback?". What do you really think LadyM? |

I think that he never really left. I know the business can be frustrating (believe me!) but to bow out for a long time and then bounce back, that's confusing. He said himself that he could never stop making and playing music, so why even do that? But, I am glad that he is once again visible! To rotate his video late nights is appalling (excuse my spelling). I mean, because these stations think that the video is not as hip as what's in rotation these days does not mean that he has to be delagated to that spot...he can take these youngins' to school! And I am surprised that BET and VH1 is doing that after the support that they have given him over the years. Really sad indeed. But I guess that is business! |

I hear ya Wonder B, the RAINBOW CHILDREN CD is a great CD...some very strong songs on there! N.E.W.S. is also a strong CD, if you are into instrumentals! |

The comeback is that he is now on a major label and not selling his albums out of the back of the truck (so to speak). Now that the big boys are behind the album, Prince will be everywhere and deservedly so. As Chris Rock said last night in his HBO special, "Remember that argument about who was better, Michael Jackson or Prince. Well... Prince has won." |

I think he'll hang with Columbia for a while if "Musicology" does well. After his experience with Warner Brothers I don't feel he'll take any crap from the majors. He did one album for Arista a few years back and split after that one release. |

oh PS...I heard Musicology for the first time yesterday...almost fell out the car partying so hard...They are playing it on our main classic soul and R&B station here Kiss-FM. My daughter will see him in concert next week in Florida...every other word in our conversation is Prince. LOL. The young woman is 'HOOKED'. |

My understanding is that the free copy of his new album that you get at the concert is only a disc in a sleeve, no liner notes etc. Interesting marketing technique as I figure many (most?) Prince folks will want the whole package and go buy the album again. |

Hi tsaneladi, Your right about his free give aways. Like he did with his Crystal Ball CD that you could order through his website there was no info at all. When I think back on it, when he decided to put it out in the stores the that had a CD booklet with all the info inside. Don't if you remember when Crystal Ball was first released there we're only 3 CB CD's, then 4, finally 5. I have to give him credit he is a heck of a business man. I didn't think he was acting strange, because he knew what he was doing all along. |

Prince didn't sign a traditional recording contract with EMI, Arista, or Sony. He contracted with them to distribute, and probably to market, respectively, his Emancipation, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic, and Musicology CDs, which he completed on his own. "Rave..." was probably the closest to a non-independent release in that Clive Davis had some influence over it. This has kept him out of any long-term contracts like the WB one about which he was upset. Regards, Ken |

Lady Mystique: I keep Rainbow Children with me al the time...it is the 'ish'....his best work as far as Im concerened... My daughter went to the concert last night in Ft Lauderdale and called all night screaming in my ear...she had front row...playing the tambourine all night...she said Prince noticed her and other people as well how well she played the tambourine (church 'thang' ya know...lol...)they were watching for pictures and she could not even get her camera phone in edgewise..lol... BUT..... SHE GOT THE ROYAL BRUSH (up against) FROM PRINCE! That's right, I know my determined kid...she was trying to get next to him the best way she could, so at the after party in BOCA RATON, he entered the club about 2 hours after evryone was partying and she was standing towards the front and he walked in...(his Royal Diddy-Bopness)and everyone started to cheer...she placed her finger on the re-dial and got me instantly (3am this morning, I feel like I was at the concert!) it was a little gravely in sound...but I heard her scream scream scream!!!! AHHHHHHHHH I love you Prince.....!!! HE stopped and asked her if she enjoyed the show....I told her See?! you never know who's watching!...lol...well I checked to make sure my hospital coverage reached to Miami Fla, because that young woman had a 'con-nip-tion'...lol... |

Great story, DyvaNaye, I'm really jealous of your daughter! The nearest Prince came to Charleston was 100 miles up the road. I could have handled the road trip but it was on a Monday night and I have to get up at 4:30 during the week. Still, I was sick about missing it.

PRINCE is such a ROCKSTAR!! I think he even knew it then...The picture looks as if he is saying: Y'all aint even ready..im on some 1984 s--t and yall are stuck on 77'. The man never left...he just got back in touch with his audience and his sound..I was worried about him during that NPG era..scary moment but The Rainbow album made me a beleiver again. Plus, he did some side work with The ROOTS/COMMON so I think (IMHO)that kinda brought him back to where he is now to some extent. Musicology is a very JB groove (Mr. Maceo Parker appears in the video..) w/o question. |

Wonder B -Great picture of Prince from high school! I guess his fan base never really went away...nor has he lost his musical abilities. He's sold out 3 Allstate Arena shows in Chicago (15,000 seat) & he's added a 4th Chicago show too. Strange...I saw him play at the Park West Theater (600 seats) at a "quicky" show in 1994 or 1995, but I thought he played better & entertained more at the United Center (17,000). Now that I remember it, the Park West show was a little over an hour long, not enough Prince in my book! |

In the UK we have a very minor star by the name of Martine McCutcheon, who has a current album entitled "Musicality". I heard on my local radio station the other week that sales of her album were increasing as a result of Prince fans incorrectly ordering "Musicality" instead of "Musicology" through the internet. |
