Thought I would look up the one word I was not familiar with. Since several people have asked what the titles Debutant, Arriviste and Laureate was all about under the posters name to the left and there has been no response to their questions. Arriviste untrustworthy social climber: somebody who has recently become influential or socially prominent, especially somebody suspected of self serving or unscrupulous motives I for one am not to pleased that it is associated with my name and I'm not so sure I am happy being a debutant either. Is anyone else familiar with this term??? |

I have noticed these terms on the site but have no idea where they emanate from. They have certainly not been applied by L/D or R. Please be assured that I will find out. I haven't seen the other thread you refer to. If anyone has fears or questions about the site layout please mail me rather than raise them on the board. david@soulfuldetroit.com |

The form that we all filled in did not request this detail. The detail sits within the Moderators control panel however under Account Reference. This field offers 5 options arriviste laureate pundit doyen zenith I will have to amend over 300 profiles and suggest I change them all to Pundit which means a "learned person". Unfortunately I cannot exclude the field. Please advise if this is ok before I start amending which will of course take me some considerable time. |

Hey Dave: You figured it out, they do change as I have both the arriviste and debutant (Not on your list) beside my name. So what does it matter, I guess it's part of the program and not some big brother type of plot to identify and code us with secret names where we will all be doomed to banishment as we slide down the code list from Zenith to Arriviste. Heaven forbide, this is like the ON Star system is it??? LOL I SEE YOU!!!! |

On other Forums (Fora) I have visited, the changing appelations refer to the historical total number of posts made by the poster. They start with the "beginner" designation, and change at designated threshhold points, such as 100, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000, etc. Perhaps these changing names are assigned when a poster has reached a certain number of posts. However, so far our number of posts seems to be too small to already be changing designations. I'm curious about this, too. |

While these are not endearing titles, I can live with a little slam as an arriviste, I've been called much worse. MUCH worse!!!! |

My first post here I was an "arriviste". At 19, I am currently a debutant. This will be my 20th post. I can use it as a test. We shall se if I change to another designation at 20. Then, we'll know if it changes at every 10 posts. -Oops! I already saw that Mel is still a Debutant at 24! The change thresholds must be based on some exponential progression. |

Robb, you must be a fan of sci-fi novels to pull off a word like that, I assume? |

Posters with over 40 are "Pundits" and over 100 are "Laureates" |

I'm tempted to comment that the words 'storm' and 'teacup' come to mind when reading this discussion... Personally speaking, being neither 'influential' nor 'socially prominent', I didn't particularly object to being branded an "Arriviste" |

Arriviste describes me pretty good, I guess. I wouldn't mind skipping debutante, though. I'll do a lot of inane posts and try to get through it. |

That's about right Lenny. Every since these ratings have been discovered it looks like some people have been writing inane posts about nothing just to move up the totem pole. I'd rather write meaningful posts about topics that I'm interested in and know something about. I guess I'll be remaining a Arriviste for quite some time instead of having 200 posts containing nothing more than a and hi! LOL.

Being the 'trainspotting' soul collectors that we are, on raresoulforum.co.uk we allocate 'anorak toggles'...you know, the wooden things to do your coat up with...as one's posts increase...amazes me how excited some members get when they get another toggle. I've also seen little 'beer bottles', which fill up, on other sites..all good fun! :-) |
