I just love Liz Lands ! I have 4 single recorings of hers on thre different cds. Are there more? is there any talk of unreleased recordings seeing the light of day? any Liz Lands recordings that I may not be aware of? anyone think she sounds like former New Birth,Raelette,Supreme member Susaye Greene? "in the wee hours of the morning" is my favorite Liz Lands' find so far....Love me some Liz Lands |

Discography: Divinity 99008 Trouble In The Land We Shall Overcome Gordy 7023 We Shall Overcome I Have A Dream (WSO is also on the Gordy LP, 'The Great March To Washington') Gordy 7026 May What He Lived For Live He's Got The Whole World In His Hands Gordy 7030 Midnight Johnny Keep Me One-Derful 4847 One Man's Poison Don't Shut Me Out T & L 50 Come In The Room Someone Bigger Than You And I T & L 201 Silent Night Inst. T & L 1001 Echo In The Background (Of My Broken Heart) Qualify For My Love T & L 1002 Cotton Fields Let It Be Me T & L 118-68 Let It Be Me Cotton Fields Echo In The Background Since I Met You Baby In addition to the above, there's also a different version of 'Midnight Johnny', which a good friend of mine has the original 7" acetate...it is faster, has a totally different arrangement, vocal performance (both by her and the Temptations)...and at one point I'd swear you get Ms.Ross singing, 'Stay away from my door' as a possible prompt. The lady certainly had an amazing vocal range. |

I've heard 2 songs by Liz Lands ('Midnight Johnny', 'Don't Shut Me Out') and she does absolutely nothing for me in the vocal department. Her voice seems to have a whiney tone to it that I find irritating. 'Don't Shut Me Out' starts off as good tune but it seems to fall apart toward the end and when Liz gets to shrieking it's like nails on a chalkboard! I'm not trying to offend anyone but I guess I just haven't heard the right songs by her. Maybe the T&L records from the late 60's are a little better? |

I've got that Gordy 7023. She made Mary Wells' "Oh Little Boy" oe of my favorite songs. |

thanks for the discography . I'll do some searching. she's a pretty well kept secret. I really think her cut from the sinatra motown cd....'in the wee hours of the morning' is my favorite. that's the one I find most reminiscent of the wonderful "SUSAYE"....Thanx again |

I have an unreleased Jobete acetate by Liz Lands on which she really shows off her range. Big production, very fancy. I've heard that the acetates Motown did that say Jobete but don't list the artist's name (like this one) were demos they sent around to get people outside of Motown interested in cutting a song. If that's true, Liz Lands seems an odd choice for vocal duties--she's soaring through the octaves like it's nothing, which I have to think would be pretty intimidating to any singer listening to the demo. Who could emulate that? |

I'm jealous! I have nothing as treasured as that.I really do hope her legion of fans will beckon MOTOWN to release her product.I'd be thrilled. I also hope she's still on the planet. Anyone know if she is with us any longer? hmnnn? nobody mentioned the Ian Levine releases. Dare I? oy vay...I guess you really don't have too. I'm just glad they've stopped. Hold on to the dream Gals.....Guys..... |

I believe there were several Liz Lands cuts that weren't released on vinyl. I've seen at least 4 on tape lists or acetates. I can't remember the titles. But, seeing as how many, many more unreleased motown cuts have surfaced since I went through the lists and looked at tapes and acetates in the '70s, and in view of how extensively Motown recorded its artists: I'd venture to guess that there are MORE than those 4. |

Cool Ju-one time while traveling with Mary Wells in early 70's I asked her about the opra riff in "Oh Little Boy" and in the car she did it and it sounded just like the record...Cecil(Womack)started laughing and she threw a handful of fritos on him.But she told me that she sang opera when she was in the Northwestern High choir. So as far as I know thats Mary on "Oh Little Boy" as it sounds like her.Liz Lands had some wild "do" for the 60's, huh? |

Liz also had an album released back in the 60s. I saw it in a used record store. I'm not sure, but it might have been for RCA. |

I just got a BOHANNON collection. and Ms LIZ LANDS is on two of the tracks . Also featured on this surprise ebay treat is the friendly Miss Carolyn Crawford and the incredibly lovely Jean Carn(e)....boy it was time to light up when ms Liz started going off on her riffing ,baby...I had no idea . God works in mysterious ways. Imagine Liz Lands coming to me (the same week I wrote of her) in such a mysteriously obvious ebay (which I hate)way...so lets keep unearthing more and more of that little octave jumper LIZ LANDS... |

Hey Tony, I have always dug that opera riff on "Oh Little Boy." I mentioned that a few years ago on another message board and someone told me that it was a Liz Lands overdub. Anyone able to tell me for sure? Ju |

Flynny, at long last I have run across my Liz Lands acetate--the title is Don't Wanna Lose What I Got. Astounding vocal performance and very impressive song, though a bit too uptown for my taste. |
