I have an advertisement from HMV records from several years ago . I saved it because I couldn't believe my eyes. Gladys Knight and Pips and the 4 tops and "Martha and Vandellas" were all releasing cds with unreleased tracks on each. The series escapes me.(lost 'n'found) It will come to me though. Anyway ...the series was pulled . These 3 previously mentioned were supposed to be the latest continuing the series that started with the tempts, four tops , and the miracles. They were the 1st three of the 'lost and found' series....Any word on whether they will ever see the light of day? (the unreleased three). Is there someone at MOTOWN people write to,to request this?. I just want everyone that is a 'Vandella' fan to be aware of the vast catalogue of unreleased material stil in the can on Ms Martha Reeves as well as Gladys Knight etc. Let's rally for it's release. I'm fading away fast and how long can those dusty ole tapes last? Get crackin'...get pressing...I need more . I've heard at least 50 of these 150 and I truly feel most (at least what I've heard) is worth releasing. Better hurry cos the fan base is thinning out. oy...help

Unfortunately, the "Lost & Found" series was discontinued after it generated disappointing sales, and further planned releases were cancelled. BTW, this topic has been discussed at length over on the Motown Bulletin Board, and the present powers-that-be at Universal are well aware of the fans' longing to hear the unissued tracks that at present remain the vaults. Of course, Ms Reeves is not the only artist who has a stack of vintage material 'in the can'. There is a hidden treasury of "unknown" but high-quality tracks from Brenda Holloway, Kim Weston, and many others waiting to see the light of day. Much of this is easily on a par with their released material (I know, I have a large stash of it!)

Looking to a brighter future, Motown are definitely on the case these days - a new label, "Motown Select" is to be launched later this year, with the emphasis on rarities and unissued tracks. So, the long wait for at least some of Motown's hidden gems may soon be coming to an end :-)

It is a fabulous show. Sounds much better than the Live lp from the roostertail I think. I bought both the stereo and mono as they are supposedly different recordings. one being better than the other. I must give them a spin once more. Oh to be as talented as the lovely Ms Reeves and her divine cohorts.A living legend with so much more product yet to be shared. It's really unimaginable. I live for it's release. Boy I do need a life. I live vicariously through these gifted divas.LOVELY!

Hey LaBrenda,
The live Martha & co. lp issued was recorded at
the 20 Grand and, yes, the mono & stereo releases
are the same songs, but two different shows.
I, too, wish Motown would release their Copa lp.

There is, and it IS being released. Look i.e. for "Graetest hits and rare classics" bij Brenda Holloway and Kim Weston. Barbara Randolph and Jimmy Ruffin just had their "Ultimate Motown Collection" (2CD) released, at least in the UK and Europe. More to follow, I hope.
I love "The touch of time" (Barbara Randolph) from 1965, with three very recognizable Supremes (Diana, Mary, Flo) as backup singers.

Robbert - you don't need to tell me. I'm well up to speed on Motown's recent releases, and some of their future plans. There are some very tasty goodies in the pipeline for Motown collectors, and I do also recommend the already-released Jimmy and Barbara sets. There are most definitely 'more to follow'! :-)

Thanx, Ritchie, for welcoming me so warmly on this forum. How nice that you're so much up to speed. Don't worry, I won't be tryin' to catch up on you. I wouldn't dare. I was just tryin'to become a part of this forum. But then again, why should I bother to post anything anyway, since you're so keen on letting us know you already know it all ?

Thanx John from Stoney Wall!

I thought of U yesterday again when I was on that "Crosstown" bus in Manhattan again. It's funny in the regard that it simply says (in big capital letters): "CROSSTOWN". And it's that long, extended bus -- like a train -- going across 42nd Street, right past B.B. King's Nightclub! What I'd like to do is create a file for THE VELVELETTES. The S.V.A. wasn't gonna do it because they haven't done THE SHANGRI-LAS yet (who have 5 songs in the movie "Stonewall") but I believe we should do both asap. I know U agree X-town. Is there material that U could send to the S.V.A. (address is on homepage) or that Cal or whoever could send? The website gets way over 1,000 "visits" per day throughout the year. In June and July, sometimes August, it gets well over 2,000 "visits" per day! Last month, both D.R.S. and M.R.V. rec'd over 1,000 visits each. Did U ever call that U know where place in NYC?

Meanwhile, the correct Motown Girl Group weblinx are as follows (just one number apart):

DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES:
www.STONEWALLvets.org/songsofS tonewall-6.htm

MARTHA REEVES & THE VANDELLAS:
www.STONEWALLvets.org/songsofS tonewall-7.htm

THE MARVELETTES:
www.STONEWALLvets.org/songsofS tonewall-8.htm
(with a link there for new friends to visit the Soulful Detroit Forum or for current members who go there to easily return "Home" to S.D.F.!)

Note: The S.V.A. Webmaster has promised that by Thurs., May 13, all of The 1970s Supremes data will be input on the above linked file. Photos, etc. will be about a week or so later. They are comin'. And The Marvelettes photos (there are none yet) will be placed prior to M-45, in honor of those girls who we will unfortunately not see on the show.

I am not sure I quite understood the last sentence of your previous post....before the links.

I do know about Stonewall and also recall reading about the riots when they happened - I am that old!

As far as material is concerned, if you mean pictures and the like, I would need to ask Cal first but I should tell you there will be a website for the Velvelettes which Ritchie will be working on.

I plan to visit New York sometime soon, like before the end of this month....

All aboard: "Crosstown". Glad U asked. Actually, it's re: our talk months ago on the "Classic S.D. Forum" (some tiredly call it the "Old Forum") about having THE VELVELETTES come to NYC and perform at BBK's, since so many girl groups -- or girl group lead singers such as RONNIE and DARLENE and SHIRLEY -- perform there to big and enthusiastic audiences. Glad to hear that Ritchie is ensuring that The V's will have a website! Ask him to keep his HomeBoard as exclusively S.D.F. Like Derek Jeter's home is with The Yankees not the Mets! I sent him a nice e-mail about that. I'm heavy on loyalty and oneness.

The very interesting fact about The Velvelettes and The Stonewall is that their song "Needle" was one of the few (literally 4) that stayed in The Stonewall Jukebox permanently. That was quite a feat! The only other 3 permanent songs in the "Top 40" were M.R.V.'s "Heat Wave", D.R.S.'s "Stop!" (mostly because of the arm and hand gestures) and CONNIE FRANCIS' "Where The Boys Are" (always the closing song). U can tell CAL that I can tell her as a matter of fact that at The Stonewall Club, The Velvelettes were more popular than The Beatles. "Amen" go rite there!

That's swell that U are coming to Manhattan soon. Is it business and/or pleasure? Just let me know when and we can hook up, if U want. No problem. Maybe go record shopping and definitely go to B.B. King's. After we go for a ride on the famous "Crosstown" bus in Midtown Manhattan, I can give U a tour of The Stonewall -- site of the historic 1969 Stonewall Rebellion (not a 'riot'; the cops called it that)! Incredibly, it's still there. Many years ago (about 20), I took Diva REEVES there before we then went on to eat at her favourite soulfood restaurant in NYC, "The Pink Tea Cup", in Gay Greenwich Village! It's a short walk from The Stonewall. "We've Passed That Way Before." We walk in there and, as always, there's a framed picture of Miss MARTHA hanging on the wall! "Ain't Nothing Like The Real Thing".

"The Boy from Crosstown", who used to be "The Boy Next Door" -- until he moved. Nonetheless, he became "The Boy That Got Away".

Xtown, I rec'd your nice e-mail. Thanx. I'll be glad to help.

I s/w the nightclub 3x. They are definitely interested in THE VELVELETTES -- Motown's only original group, male or female or otherwise.

"Lookin' for a good man is like looking for a needle in a haystack!" -- what a great line!!

I e-mailed U all the 411. I'll look to hear from U. I also rec'd an e-mail from Ritchie, on a different subject.

By the way, ironically, I have another very special Velvelettes connection. I have someone very important to me named CAL. Interestingly, those are his initials!
