I was wondering if you played in or were present during the recording of The O'Jays unreleased album "Together We Are One", and if it is as bad as Eddie Levert and Walter Williams claim. They say it is "stale and artistically inferior." They lost the lawsuit to stop PIR to release it. These are the songs: All Eyes on Africa,Together We Are One,Your Place or Mine, I Know What You're Doing (But I'm Too Scared to Do Something About It), Ruler of the Universe, Pretty Is as Pretty Does (Just Too Pretty for Words), Promises, When Sunny Gets Blue, Just Don't Seem to Be My Day, Packin' My Bags (Movin' On), Hurry Home, This Could Be the Last Time.

Those songs were compiled from various sessions over the years and new vocals were recently added as well. I played on most of the stuff, but as I had mentioned on another thread, now I know why they didnt make the final cut the first time around. IMO, its extremely boring and should have stayed "in the can". |

In todays Cleveland paper there was a report of the O'Jays losing their court case to have that album blocked in Philadelphia. The O'Jays (Eddie & Walter) thought it was inferior quality not up to par with their other PIR recordings and that the CD release would hurt their chances for future bookings. (???) The judge disagreed with that assesment and ruled in favor of PIR! Whats up Bobby?! S.S. |

Mmmm, I completely respect the points of view being discussed here. I have to be honest and say that www.solarradio.com have been playing various cuts from the cd for the last 5 weeks now. We have recieved mixed messages from our listeners, with some saying they like it, and some saying that compared to the some of the earlier PIR recordings it's overall quality is down slightly, but compared to some of the dross out there right now, it's still shines head and shoulders above the competition. I agree that it's not 100% but hell, it isn't really bad either.

I got the CD last night and it is not bad but it is not the best. I do not think it is stale but it is has some classic Philly value to it. Some of the songs could have been a little more powerful and when you thought it the song would go in a certain direction it mellowed back to the intro feel of it.. |

Fully respect your opinion Bobby. I can imagine being an artist, you would only ever want the very best product to get out to the people. As you say, nothing more - nothing less. |

Got that right!! Ive known the Ojays ever since 1967 and I love them as people andfor their greatness which this cd, imo does not represent. BTW, who in the world ever told that third dude he should lead s song! Once again, I do NOT have to agree with anyone but myself as its only MY opinion. Cheers! |

I keep hearing so much about this CD for the past few weeks now, but can't seem to get a snippet of what the songs sound like! Where on the web can I get a sample listening of the songs (for free of course), and make a judgement for myself. I can take Bobby's word on the unreleased songs to heart, because he was there in the trenches with the O'Jays for years. So, I respect his opinion on the overall quality of the songs and believe what he says. I just want to hear what all of the talk is all about. |

Bobby, you make me wonder how it must be when recording artists are working on a new project that they suspect it's no good... More or less that's the same story with movies. Films are kept in the can many times, as keeping the recorded material in the vaults; though movies may go straight to the video market... It's a bit different with performing arts, which change from perfomance to performance. In theater, sometimes you are working on something bad and you know it, but for some strange reason the producer does not change the bad actor or bad director, and the plays open. Since it's different from day to day, you may try to change a thing or two (up to a point) to see if things improve... Sometimes the play simply closes, lol. That must be the equivalent to the vault and the can alternatives! But it makes me curious what makes us go on, when we know that things are not working the way we thought they would have. |
