Anyone have any update on the new Philly Soul compilation that's the sequel to "Creme de la Creme?" Is it out yet? Also, what about the Blue Magic reissues of their first two albums? Any info would be appreciated. |

Hello Everyone. I can't wait for this one, but just as important as WHEN it is to be released .. WHAT is the track listing? And on the subject of "Philly" compilations. I've just picked up the two volumes of "The Philly Groove Story" that got released in the U.K. a couple of years back ... well worth tracking down .. some nice stuff on there, including a few that I'd never heard before. What's up Bobby Bro? Is there a track listing for You Better Believe It? What artist(s) are they planning to feature? What's up with Mr Stone & your reissue Tell Henry that we're waiting on it. Peace! Juice |

Is the title of the new Philly Compilation really, "You Better Believe It?" I just checked Amazon.co.uk and here are the song titles of the new compilation: 1. Mary Wells - If You Cant Give Her Love (Give Her Up) 2. Gerald Sims - Youll Never Be Sorry 3. Jean Battle - Ive Got To Come In 4. Ben E. King - Smooth Sailing 5. The Classic Sullivans - Paint Yourself In The Corner 6. Major Lance - Without A Doubt 7. Vivian Reed - Save Your Love For Me 8. Cool Sounds - Free (Im Coming Home) 9. Aristocrats - Lets Get Together Now 10. Prince Phillip Mitchell - One On One 11. Bettye Swann - Kiss My Love Goodbye 12. Terry Collins - I L.O.V.E. Y.O.U. 13. Barbara Lynn - Nice And Easy 14. Archie Bell & The Drells - When You Left Heartache Began 15. Duponts - Always Be My Baby 16. Hypnotics - Beware Of The Stranger 17. Donny Hathaway - Love, Love, Love** [Alt Mix] 18. The Enticers - Calling For Your Love 19. Brenton Wood - Better Believe It 20. Aretha Franklin - Dont Let Me Lose This Dream 21. Sam Dees - Fragile, Handle With Care 22. The Dynells - Let Me Prove That I Love You 23. Bobby Sheen - I May Not Be What You Want 24. Tower Of Power - So Very Hard To Go 25. Peggy Scott - Nobodys Gonna Get Your Mama These don't seem like Philly songs for the most part. How many of these are from Sigma and how many are from other parts of the country? |

In the Creme De La Creme liner notes it mentioned a proposed reissue of Blue Magic's first 2 albums on WEA. I keep checking but can't find any release date. Does anyone have any news of this? |

I thought I read once that Blue Magic used "others" as the backround singers on their recordings? Is this true and why? |

Hello Everyone. Bobby Eli, I think there must be some misunderstanding here, as this can't possibly be "Creme De La Creme - Volume Two". As DavidS91 says, it isn't a Philly Compilation, for example THE CLASSIC SULLIVANS is a Chicago record. If it is to fit into a pigeonhole it seems to be more a "Modern Soul" compilation. Furthermore, the BETTY SWANNE track "Kiss My love Goodbye" was on the first "Creme De La Creme". This is DEFINITELY a C.D. that I need to get as soon as it is available, but hopefully WEA here in the U.K. will be releasing a proper "Creme De La Creme Volume II" in due course. Roger |

There is a volume II on the horizon. You better believe it is a soul comp and not necessarilly totaly Philly. |

Mary Wells was definitely NOT a Philly recording-- that was done in L.A. with Bobby Womack producing. I don't think a lot of those tracks listed above have a Philly connection. |

If I we're a resident and living in Philly I'd of been a record collecting fool. I'm just saying to say this, alot of Philly records never made it to Chi some but not all, and would be considered rare and obscure and many we're quite regional to me. I wish I could have gotten a chance to hear all the other artists to have come from Philly, from 60-69. This may be a good collector item |

I'm truly a big fan of Blue Magic...I've had a burning question for years the 1978 (Atco) Album "Message From The Magic", which is a great Lp, My question is about the newcomers ( Michael Buchanan and Walter Smith) who were they? their music history leading them to become members of Blue magic and finally, On the album cover, which one is Michael and Walter....also what is Richard Pratt's history after his departure form Blue magic (Message edited by dramaticblue on April 22, 2004) |
