Hi folks, For those of you who can download PDF files, here's a real interesting link that contains the liner notes to a CD that was produced for the exhibition "Night Train To Nashville: Music City Rhytm and Blues": http://www.commotionpr.com/med ia/nightTrain_liners.pdf There will also be a series of lectures/presentations at the Country Music Hall Of Fame throughout spring and summer which look mighty interesting: http://www.countrymusichalloff ame.com/programs/nttn_program_ .html Unfortunately, I can't be there, but maybe some of our Stateside members will be able to make it to Nashville! I am intending to get to the exhibit over the next few weeks. Frankly, I have been waiting for the periodic two-for-one admission coupons for the CMHoF to show up in the papers. The exhibit has gotten excellent local reviews. |

This sounds interesting. I will be in Nashville next month for my daughter's graduation. I'm going to try my best to make the time to see this exhibit. |

I went to Nashville in 2002 to stay with my uncle for a few months, and my thoughts about the city was nothing but it is the birthplace of Country Music. I never thought a that melting pot was also brewing there when I discovered that the city also embraced R&B, Blues, Rap and other genres of music as well. I was surprised by the discovery. |

Wasn't there a PBS special that revolved around a Nashville/Memphis collaberation somewhere around 1995? On our country station we're playing as an oldie "Rainy Night In Georgia" by Conway Twitty and Sam Moore. I think it came off that LP. |

Hi everyone, tsaneladi: Glad be of help, and hope you'll enjoy the exhibition. Fred: I presume you'll be down 'strutting your stuff' at the R&B dance workshop in May!;-) Douglas: there is a fine CD "Rhytm Country and Blues" (MCA 1994) which contains various pairings of C/W and soul artists, doing R&B and country songs, which is probably the CD you're thinking of. If you'd like to I can post the track list-otherwise you might have a peak at AMG. I personally think that artists like Vince Gill/Gladys Knight, or Clint Black/Pointer Sisters blend very nicely-but then again, both soul and C/W singing has always struck me as coming, as they say, "straight from the heart". Eva.... ....That's it, thank you. As to your comment about C&W/Soul, it was true at one time but don't get me started on the current state of country music, and definately not here. Maybe David can start a "Cornfed Detroit" forum. doug |

Just back from an afternoon at the "Night Train" exhibit at the CMHoF. It is something not to be missed. For me, the exhibit highpoint were the clips of the local TV shows from the 60s with Etta James, Freddie King, Little Milton and Little Richard (with Jimi Hendrix on guitar in the background)and others. Definitely worth the trip. If you are planning to go, find out from the HoF website what special Saturday events are scheduled. Today, there was a panel discussion about "Everlasting Love" with Buzz Cason and Robert Knight. A lot of great stories were told. I picked up a copy of Cason's new book "Living The Rock and Roll Dream" which I got both of them to autograph. I got even a bigger kick out of going through the exhibit and running into Clifford Curry ("She Shot A Hole In My Soul"). He was enjoying the TV clips (and he's in a couple) as much as anyone. You really don't expect to see one of the subjects of the exhibit just walking around. There is an excellent exhibit book that has many of the featured photos. It should be available through the HoF website if anyone is interested. I also highly recommend the 2 CD set, which is a very nice introduction to Nashville's contributions to R&B. Allow yourself some time to see the rest of the Museum, even if you don't consider yourself much of a country music fan. There are some great displays of memorabilia. And wear comfortable shoes. |

Hi Fred, Thanks for the report! I will order the 2 CD set. Could you recommend anything by Clifford Curry that would be available on CD? Eva |

Eva, Probably the best Curry compilation is the Collectables "She Shot A Hole In My Soul." It's about 10 years old, but still in print. It has all his 60s stuff. |
