When David Ritz come over to visit Jimmy & I today he brought me this gift of music, he did the liner notes. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but here's what it looks like for any Isley fans. CD Jacket:

Dyva: U are not alone...paricularly WRT the 3+3 period. "If You Wre There" and "Highways Of My Life" are two of the best B-sides/album cuts ever !! Chris Jasper's writing and masterful keyboards have been sorely missed ! He has left the R&B game...stating he will never write another "Between The Sheets"...but he and Ron need to hook up for something uplifting like "Harvest For The World" or "Caravan of Love"' |

The Isleys also did great versions of "Don't Let Me Be Lonely Tonight" and "Summer Breeze" (love Ernie's guitar work and Ronald's vocals) on "3+3". Kevin Goins - KevGo |

I love this album and I swear to you I just played it Sunday........It always reminds me of the spring season, for some reason..... I don't have this newly remastered version with the extra track, though.....I have the first CD release....Think it's worth getting the new version, Kev? I like the idea of the liner notes......Ritz always does a great job with those..... Favorite tracks on this LP are "If You Were There," "Highways of My Life" and, of course, the masterful "Summer Breeze", which out "summer breezes" the original, in my opinion. I spent many a lesson with a guitar instructor trying to break down Ernie's licks on that song.....as he bends the crap outta those strings!! One of the best-ever examples of r&b and rock mixing it up! In fact.....the Isley Brothers are coming to Columbia, SC this weekend at the annual "River Festival"......that's only 3 hours away and I, unfortunately, can't make it......But I'm glad ot hear they're still active and moving about.... Galactus: The remastered CD is worth the price of admission. I've heard it and it sounds great. Here's a funny anecdote from the Isley Brothers' boxed set ("It's Our Thing" - 1999) - when Ernie Isley cut his solo on "That Lady", his playing caught the brothers by surprise to the extent that all O'Kelly Isley did was stand in the middle of the studio and stare at Ernie for several minutes AFTER he stopped playing! That's a funny tale.....Ernie has always been underrated by rock fans, I think.....he could compete with anyone, IMO.....He has a rock edge to his playing while at the same time is smooth and it just flows nicely......Like Hendrix with softer edges..... He's great on "Live It Up," "The Heat Is On" and "Harvest For The World," too.....and just goes all out on "Go For Your Guns".... |

Hello Everyone. On the subject of "That Lady", its well worthwhile tracking down a copy of their original take of the song .. called "Who's That Lady" that they did in the '60s prior to joining Motown. I have a copy on a U.K. Compilation L.P. that got released in the Mid '80s called "Whats Happening Stateside". I'm not sure of the details of the original U.S. release. Does anyone out there know the label or even better ... have a copy? Roger |

roger, Rhino did a nice transfer of that original on "The Isley Brothers Story, Part 1"....came out in the early 90s.......a very good retrospective of their early career. This disc was in print at one time, but I'm not sure that it's still being made. The disc starts out with "Shout" and ends with the Isley's Motown stuff...... I did manage to track down a copy in a record store a few years ago..... "Who's That Lady" is a good version of "That Lady".....very interesting....different, but just as good as the 3+3 version.....the original is a bit less rock-influenced and more traditional r&b.... |

The closest I've ever been to 3+3 is the CD "The Isley Brothers Story Vol. 2: The T-Neck Years 1969-1985" which I have in my collection. "That Lady" and "Summer Breeze" are the quentissential Isley Bros. songs that really shows their musical skills at their best. I plan on getting the 3+3 album and others (including the box set) to complete my collection. So far, I have the collection mentioned above, "The Heat Is On" and "Go For Your Guns", but they are the original CD releases before CBS merged with Sony, so I need to get the new versions soon. Still keeping the old CDs though. p.s.: On what album is "Here We Go Again" on? For years, I thought it was either on the albums "Harvest For The World" or "Go All The Way", But I don't know. I want to hear it so bad! |

bigdaddy, "Here We Go Again" was indeed on the "Go All the Way" album, which unfortunately for CD-only people like me hasn't made it's way to the CD format yet. I used to have the LP and remember it being a good album...(I do remember about 7 or 8 years ago seeing "Go All They Way" as a CD import in a Camelot store briefly......it was gone in a few weeks and I've never seen it since.....or been able to find it). "Showdown," "Inside You," and "The Real Deal" are the other Isley albums that have never made it to the CD format. I remember "The Real Deal" being a very underrated album....there were some very good funk and rock-oriented tracks featuring Ernie. |

Thanx for the info Galactus, I knew that song had to come out either in '78 or '79! It is messed up that they omitted it on CD. I hope in future reissues they will put it back. "Inside You" is on CD. On the "Isley Brothers Story Vol.2" and the CD reissue of their "Grand Slam" album from 1981. But I'm assuming it's on the "Grand Slam" CD, or they might've omitted that too. |

Sure thing, bigdaddy BTW......I was referring to the "Inside You" ALBUM, not just the song itself......The "Inside You" album came out after "Grandslam" and has yet to make it to CD......unfortunately. I even missed that one on LP......so I'd really like to get it one day if it ever comes out. I do have the "Grandslam" CD.....It's a Japanese import. I had the vinyl at one time, too......That album got me through high school! Hits from "Grandslam" are "Hurry Up and Wait" and "Tonight is the Night." I think "I Once Had Your Love" and "Young Girls" did pretty well, also.... |

Anything slow from the Isleys I love...I like the funky stuff, but give me the slow, smooth grooves and you have made my day! Anybody that could make SUMMER BREEZE as sensual as they did is amazing! |

If anyone has a 5.1 surround sound system and an SACD player, the Isley Brothers 3+3 album is available in surround sound. It's a great experience! |

I was in college during the time that this album came out. It was a radical departure from what the Isley's had been doing before! Ernie Isley doing his best to make Jimi proud ( some of you may not know that Jimi played with them for a while), funking up Summer Breeze, Who's That Lady, etc... It was the break out jam of the year! I just got the CD a couple of weeks ago and it's been in heavy rotation in my car! |

What's up everyone. BigDaddy, are you saying that you have no access to the song Here We Go Again? Get back to me on that. The Isleys made great LPS, they were bad! And Lady M, although Summer Breeze was sensual, Make Me Say It Again & Sensuality were made for Amore'. Trust me, you haven't lived if you've never loved to Sensuality! Tempo slow, good to go Check it out sometime & tell me that I'm wrong. Peace! Juice |

To be honest, if you bought any of their LPs from 1969-83, you couldn't go wrong. Usually, I give an overview of the LPs. Where The Isleys are concerned, that list would be far too extensive. Besides, everyone already knows their credentials. Peace Juice |

Is it true that the Isleys don't do their Motown Stuff? I was in the thrift store and heard 'I Guess I'll Always Love You' and was taken back to a time when we thought that was a boss record! We did the Roadrunner off of that tune, btw. I thought their Motown stuff was pretty good. |
