Saturday May 1st, 2004-a very special evening of classic R&B,Soul and popular standards of yesteryear: by James Diggs of THE KNIGHT BROTHERS This music event is to be filmed as part of a documentary project: TEMPTATION�BOUT TO GET ME --a documentary film about the life and music of James Diggs. James ascended the Billboard charts with his 1965 hit single "Temptation 'bout to Get Me." Now, for the first time in over 30 years, the former Billboard recording artist with the Chess Records dynamic duo, THE KNIGHT BROTHERS, returns to the stage with a full back-up band. James (Jimmy) Diggs left the music business a long time ago, but he never left music itself. Instead of material gain he chose the path of truth and became a Muslim. His name now is Mustafa. During his years in the temple he formed a young muslim musicians group. For long periods he earned his living playing the flute on the street corners and subways. His group now is called Mustafa and Friends. As John wrote - May 1 they will perform at the Latvian Hall in Los Angeles. We hope another concert and recording will follow and in the summer of 2005 he will perform in Latvia, Europe. Now he comes together with his musicians twice or more a week, but he practices by himself every day. He is a good, charming singer, and a fine flute & guitar player and an excellent teacher. Thanks for the news, Kelly. Very timely too - there's a Knight Brothers' compilation scheduled for UK release which will have all their Checker and Mercury tracks. Probable release date will be some time in June I'll post more details when I know the date. The label will be Shout (no connection to the NY label) - the CD's being compiled by veteran UK soul fan Clive Richardson Davie | ||

Hi Kelly, Here's the website for the label that's issuing the Knight Brothers comp www.cherryred.co.uk/rpm/shout when you get there click on the "forthcoming" link and you'll get a shot of the CD's cover. The latest info. I have is that Clive is proof- reading the booklet notes and is hoping for and end of April release date (but don't take that as set in stone) I've mentioned your news about James on the Southernsoul yahoo group so the info. should get to Clive soon. Mike, If you just can't wait for the CD, you can find some of the Knight Brothers' 45's on Ebay. Over the last couple of months I have collected all but one of their 45's. | ||
