Hi Everyone!

I have the Honey Cone, Freda Payne & The Glass House sessions. I was pretty impressed with all of them.

I didn't know Freda had recorded all those songs!
Scherrie Payne (of Glass House & later the Supremes) was in rare form then, as she is now. The Honey Cone's harmony was extraordinary. Enda Wright's vocals (of Honey Cone) were similiar to Scherrie Payne, though I can tell the differences in their voices.

I also have a copy of "Keeping Up With The Joneses-The Jones Girls. They cut some tunes on the Music Merchant label which was a subsidary of the Invictus/Hot Wax labels. One song, "You're the Only Bargain That I've Got", was also cut by Freda Payne, though I think Shirley Jones sings this better.

One of things I like most, besides the singers, is the music. Just imagine if Holland-Dozier-Holland had remained with Motown..hmm

I'm now about to order Laura Lee's "Women's Love Rights". I'm very familiar with her as well. I remember the cd title tune, & Since I Fell For You. She also has a version of The Glass House's "Crumbs Off The Table".

Let me know your thoughts, thanks.

Well, you can buy Laura's anthology with total confidence. Buy it today - I promise, you won't regret it. In fact, buy it yesterday! ;o)

It's too bad that Laura's Chess classics aren't included. I loved her music.

Personally I prefer Laura Lee's version of "Crumbs Off The Table", in fact all the stuff she did on Hot Wax is great.
"crumbs..." is taken from the album "two sides of Laura Lee" which has the McKinley Jackson feel to it (he is credited for arrangements). The song is credited to S.Payne/R.Dunbar/E.Wayne.

Has anyone ever heard the "alternate version" of Band of Gold with the somewhat "turned around" intro, some extra lyrics and a bridge?
Quite,shall we say, "unique"

I love the Holland-Dozier-Holland double disc compilation as well as Freda's & Laura Lee's. The double disc featuring all three Chairman of the Board Solo albums as well as assorted non-LP cuts is a little thin. Both those Club Classic compilation CDs are pretty good too. There's a Chairman of the Board 2-fer with Skin I'm In & Bittersweet which I appreciate so much than their first couple albums.

Buyer beware, I strongly prefer The Funk to beach music.

Speaking of which, Lars you are on point. Laura Lee's version of "Crumbs" is devestatingly funky. Blows that other one out of the water and into outer space. Gone!

Hi Everyone!

I finally received my copy of Laura Lee's Hot Wax Anthology. Ritchie, you are so right! I wasn't disappointed at all. It also brought back memories listening to such songs as: Women Love Rights, Love & Liberty, Since I Fell For You (Pts 1 & 2), & Rip Off. Crumbs off the Table is sho' nuff funky. It strange, I didn't remember The Glass House version, but when I heard Laura Lee's, a bell went off. I highly reccommend this set to everyone!
