Saturday Morning England At long last my DVD arrived of THE FOUR TOPS Live in Paris, recorded in 1971 On Amazon only one reveiw had been placed and knocked it, but I can assure you for any true FOUR TOPS Fan this is a must. Okay the camera work is not that good, but that was 1971? the colour is good and also the sound in most parts. The choice of tunes reflects France at that time and it is jazz based. Live musicians from the USA with a horn section from France, in a TV studio. Listen to Obie take lead for "Mack The Knife" - this is a true collector's piece, it makes you wonder how many other Gems are in the can like this. Cheers John |

Ahhh I like that... I'LL BE ON MY WAY TO GRAB THIS ASAP... I must admit after reading that review on Amazon, I was a bit afraid to buy the DVD, but your comment is just what I expected... Being a Tops fan I couldn't imagine something like that not being watchable... Thanks again Wonder B |

Thanks John... I have undying faith in the Tops so I would have eventulally got over the bad review, but it's always disturbing to hear bad things about the artists you love! Wonder B (Message edited by Wonder B on April 10, 2004) |

To me it looks as though the DVD is rehearsal footage, much of it B-roll with poorly synched audio. The audio is pretty good sounding mono (not stereo like it says on the package), and the song selection is an interesting mix of hits and then-current covers. There is a great relaxed, loose feeling, and it is quite obvious they are really enjoying themselves. This is the only recording of the Tops singing "Mack The Knife" that I know of, which alone makes it worth the price! |
