Hello All: I have done a search to see if Leon's name had been mentioned before and came up empty. May be I am not accessing the "old forum" information corectly. Any way I can't believe that with all the writing of song for others (many many artist, M. Jackson. M. Gayes. Isley Brothers, Ike & Tina, different musical styles - Minnie Riperton, Al Jarreau, Bobby Wormack - Loose Ends, And all of the many numerious covers and samples by rappers of his material - Ice Cube, EPMD, 2Pac heck even Prince sampled him, and lp's that Mr. Ware has produced over the last 5 decades (60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, 00's) that his has never been mentioned before. Whats up with this over site??? Did we miss a great but often over looked writer and artist or can I just not pull up the info from the "Old SD Post" ????? |

Ive known Leon and Carol ware for decades and they are both wonderful people. Leon makes the BEST BBQ sauce on earth and at one time was considering marketing it under the brand name "Ware's The sauce" |

Recently Leon Ware was mentioned in a thread I created about Pam Sawyer. We mentioned that he and Minnie Riperton recorded the song he wrote with Sawyer, "If I Ever Lose This Heaven." |

Last time I saw Leon on stage was at the North Sea Jazz Festival (what a great festival) in Den Haag in July 2002 (how time flies...) and he was brilliant... He did a couple of numbers with Sandra StVictor and that was superb too.. Wonder B |

Leon's "Musical Massage" CD (recorded in the mid-1970s) is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! It is the perfect companion to MG's "I Want You" CD, since Ware wrote and produced on both albums. Leon and wife Carol are beautiful people. He throws down in the kitchen as well as in the studio. His label for one of his recent indie CDs is even called Kitchen Records..! Mmmm, that sauce sounds good Bobby. :-)) A great name too, with a clever play on words. One of my fave's is the classic "Why I came to California", amongst others. |

I wish I could hear the album. T-Boy was Arthur Ross, now deceased. The other Ross siblings are all alive. (Message edited by Uptight on April 15, 2004) |

While I was waiting to be processed in SD's New Forum, I was checking out the archives. I ran across something about Ric Tic/Golden World. I didn't know that Mr. Leon was writing tunes for RT/GW. I was surprised. I remember before he left to head for LA he spent a whole week and some days staying with my friend Larry of the Vows/Majors/Major IV apartment to join up with either Quincy Jones or Motown? I think this was in the early 70's. I remember him playing and transribing on Larry's out of tuned piano. I mean he had thousands of lyric and sheet music cramped into his satchel- case. I had at least 3 of his lp's except for the elusive lp he did for motown's Gordy label. Leon's compositions we're ahead of time. I believe if he we're to have had his own musicians, studio, and production staffer's at the time he'da been awsome. The music he's been composing sounds like now as it did then. Like with Maxwell's first 2 lp's, I get goosebumps when I hear his CD's (that Chicago sound) is very identifiable. I remember a car commerical that came out a few yrs ago, it had one of his tunes titled "Spellbound", does anyone remember that? I wonder if he remember Larry's apartment on Drake across the street from the senior citizen home, hmm? |

I think it's Leon singing lead on a Holidays' 45 that was released on the Revilot label: "Love's Creeping Up On Me." It's a Detroit recording from 1967. (Message edited by acooolcat on April 17, 2004) |

Hello Everyone. Acoolcat. There is a verion of "Love's Creeping Up on Me" on Stax/Volt by a group called UNITED IMAGE .. I have it on a C.D. of "Stax Vocal Groups". Presumably this is the same song as the THE HOLIDAYS as the backing track sounds (to me at least) incredibly like the backing of one of my all time favourites .. "Warning" by PAT LEWIS .. on Solid Hitbound .. which credits LEON WARE. ( I don't have my 45 to hand at the moment but I think he wrote and arranged it). Does this HOLIDAYS 45 sound at all like PAT LEWIS's gem? Roger |

Roger, Although I'd never compared them before, there is a similarity. I don't know the United Image track/version you're refering to though. |

Acoolcat. I'll post the details of the other version of "Love is Creeping Up on Me" as soon as I can (probably tomorrow). If anyone else is aware of it please feel free to pre-empt me. Roger |

Roger, Leon Ware wrote and produced "Love's Creeping Up On Me" - with Mike Terry credited as co-writer. Leon also wrote & produced some other Revilot label releases: I Still Wait For You / Come Back in a Hurry (Rose Battiste) I Keep Holding On (Holidays)

Leon Ware was supposed to release a single on Gordy 7148 Comfort b/w Share Your Love in March 1976. That single was also scheduled for release on Motown 1368. Both were cancelled! Share Your Love was included on the album Musical Message on Gordy 976, but I havent heard Comfort yet. Some test pressings do exist. Has anyone here heard it? The below single was released 1979 after Leon left Motown. I have got four albums by Leon Ware: Musical Message Gordy 976 released 1976 Inside Is Love Fabulous 8500 released 1979 Rockin You Eternally Electra 6E-332 released 1981 Leon Ware Electra E1-60050 released 1982 I am not sure if he has released any other albums but this is what I found Lars |

Hello Everyone. Acoolcat .. The UNITED IMAGE version of "Love is Creeping Up on Me" was track #17 on a U.K. Ace/Fantasy C.D. called "Just A little Overcome(Stax Vocal Groups)", CDSXD 019, released in 1989. It has to be the same song as it is credited as written by L.Ware and A. Terry for Enigmatic Productions. The C.D. states it was released as a 45 on Volt 4065 in 1971. I played it this morning and the backing sounds almost exactly the same as "Warning" by PAT LEWIS. Now all I need to do is find a copy of THE HOLIDAYS version and compare all three. Roger |

So, Leon was a freelancing. I didn't know it at least not to my knowledge. I know he 's done some some writing with Venture. I guess you always learn something new ev'ry day. He's one one of my favorite songwriters in my book. |
