is this 309 S Broad, the one-time home of Cameo-Parkway? I thought PIR was on 12th.

Sounds like I need a book to get all my facts straight. Weldon MacDougal is easily the most qualified, maybe he'll write one.

There is a great book about Philly, "The Sound Of Philadelphia", written in 1975 by Tony Cummings. It's full of informations and rare pictures, one showing a young Weldon McDougal III with a cap, sitting on a stool. Weldon, do you remember that one ?

yes Phil, I remember it, in fact most of the photos in that book were mine,I was working at PIR at the time, this new book "House On Fire The Rise And Full Of Philly Soul" took 4 years to write, when Tony did The "Sound Of Philadelphia" it took about ten weeks.

if any body in the UK knows what is Tony Cummings doing these days?

Hi Weldon,

The last I heard of Tony Cummings was a rumour
that he'd become a born-again Christian and was involved in religious broadcasting on some local
UK radio station.

Recommended reading, for sure.

Hello Everyone.

I've been rather busy for the last few days, so I've only just noticed this thread.

Weldon.

It seems that TONY CUMMINGS is now editing a Christian Music magazine called "Cross Rhythms"

Heres a link to their website. If the link works there is a picture there of the man himself.

http://www.crossrhythms.co.uk/ magazine/credits.php

As an aside, my brother in law had some dealings with Tony a few years back as he had recorded some "inspirational" music which Tony showed an interest in, and as a result managed to sell a fair few copies of his cassettes. Seems like he is quite a nice guy!!

I have that book. Alfie Pollitt gave me a copy about 22 or 23 years ago. I hadn't read it for a while and I was doing some cleaning last weekend and found it in a box.

I am very excited to get this book too, please keep us posted on the details. I have Tony Cumming's book, but I'd say we're more than ripe for an update. Actually, I just recently picked up the author's Allan Freed book and am looking forward to reading it.

Now we just need to get the ultimate reference book- a complete, annotated discography of all the MFSB musicians.
