I only have a Cameo Parkway single: Let The Good Times Roll (And Feel So Good) b/w There's No Love Left by Bunny "Mr. Emotion" Sigler. I likes it a lot, especially the B side. Also I got "Mashed Potato Time" by Dee Dee Sharp in a spanish soul compilation (by Dro Records). My sister frequently played in his teens a single by Fabian (with a tiger in the cover photo!). I think was a Cameo single. Also I have a italian compilation with around six tracks by The Olymoics ("Big Boy Pete", "Dance With The Philly Dog", etc.) that probably was originally on Cameo. Resuming, i only can enumerate two (a miserable 20%) of the ten top list. (Snif!) Hope in future re-editions of Cameo realises (as also North-Bay, Neptune and other 60's Philly treasures!) Hola Manny, que tal? Actually, those other Olympics records were on The Arvee label,-a small, independent L.A. label, and Mirwood, another independent L.A. label. "Tiger" by Fabian was also NOT on a Cameo/Parkway label, it was on a smaller, independent label East Coast label.

Hey, my canadian amigo Roberto (Roena) K! (Smile!) Thanks for your sympathy and your encyclopedic knowledge. I have cheking the linner notes and the label of this italian vynil La Grande Storia del Rock. Vol. 55 (Armando Curcio Editore) that have a whole side (8 tracks!) by The Olympics. In the linner notes says simply that this group belongs to the Cameo-Parkway "scuderia". These are the 8 tracks: -"The Bounce" -"The Duck" -"Mine Exclusively" -"Same Old Thing" -"Baby Do The Philly Dog" -"Dance With The Light Of The Moon" -"Big Boy Pete" -"Shimmy Like Kate" And in the label only says "Licensed by Key-Seven, Nashville International Vee Jay". (Tthe other side is by Jerry Butler, The Shirelles and The Marcels). About Fabian i says this because I thinks he was in Cameo sometime (?). Best Regards, Peace & Soul Food |

Manny, you may be right about Fabian having had a release on Cameo. That brings up a picture in my mind. However, "Tiger" was on Chancellor Records. The Olympics did have a record on Parkway ("Lookin' For A Love"). Key-Seven may be the source of the Mirwood Olympics records, as Mirwood was distributed by Keymen Records. I believe they had also purchased the rights to The Olympics' previous records with Arvee. VJ International must have been the source for the Jerry butler songs. Paz, y comidas (alimentos) por la alma! Lenny, you have a very interesting list there. Our tastes in Cameo/Parkway are not as similar as in Girls Groups. (Message edited by Robb_K on May 22, 2004) |
