Hello Everyone. Those of you who have been around this forum for a few months may remember a couple of threads started by Soulaholic and Myself about the "insane" prices that certain 1970s Soul 45s were obtaining when auctioned on the internet. I can now inform you that the insanity has now reached the 1980's!! Looking at the John Manship site, the current auction has "It Takes Heart" by GREG PERRY (Alfa 7") at 115, and "Baby I Need Your Loving" by GAYLE ADAMS (Prelude 7") at 121. That means that at current exchange rates both of these are going for over U.S. $200. The GREG PERRY record charted on Billboards R&B chart on April 10th 1982 and spent 7 weeks there, peaking at #53. I've had this record now for about 20 years, its very nice and sounds more like a 1975/6 recording than something from the early '80s .. but could it really be classified as "rare"? The GAYLE ADAMS track is a 1982 remake of the old FOUR TOPS classic, arranged by AL JOHNSON and originally on her "Love Fever" L.P. I have the U.K. single of it on Epic .. EPC A2167. It is a quite nice version of the song, with a typical 1980's production, of the sort that I associate with IAN LEVINE and his Motorcity label , although to me THE FOUR TOPS version is far better . Heres the link .. http://www.raresoulman.co.uk/a uction/auction_view.htm Comments please .. Roger |

121 for Greg Perry - jeez, I bought mine for 5 back in 1990. Glad I've got it on CD - great track but then I love everything Greg's been involved in. Davie |
