Phil, They sound great, and you won't be disappointed either. Believe you me. Group name also known herein Chicago as Patti & The Lovelites, still the same group. Chicago deejay P.J. Willis of WKKC 89.3 FM still keeps in touch with Patti and does keep listeners up to date of her and the groups whereabouts, and interview Patti periodicaly. I'll be listening to his show tonite from 8-2 Chicago time. He'll be spining all Chi Town sides tonite this around. He sure knows how to spin the dusty's. |

Wonder B: That CD also contains some early sides by Denise Chandler, who grew up to become Deniece Williams. I don't have any of the CDs, I have just about all of their output on MP3. Phil: think of that smooth Chi-Town sound of the late 60s to early 70s, or, Chess. Think of The Gems or Jo Ann Garrett Soprano type sound. Think The Fuzz or Barbara & The Uniques. Besides How Can I Tell My Mom & Dad, they have another real winner called It's My Conscience. It's one of those mid-tempo grooves with a touch of a swing. The kind of song you snap your fingers to while sipping a cold one.....REAL SMOOTH!!! |

Before they were on Uni/Revue and Lovelite, Patti and The Lovelights cut a record on local Chicago label, Bandera in 1965 or 1966. Those cuts are great. I wonder if they also got onto the CD? |

I have the cd . I have never seen the lps. I got the cd from the soulusicsite of david nathan's I believe.FYI there was a cd I ordered from amazon.com. several months back. Deniece williams the chicago years...i was on the waiting list for quite sometime.i kept resubmitting request but to no avail. I've never received it.I also saw it catalogued at backbeat records in amsterdam but that also never showed up. I did however get that lovelites cd. i enjoyed it especially as I just love JUNE DENIECE.I will find it and provide the tracks for those interested. I had never heard of them (the lovelites)prior....The Gems and quiet elegance and the LOVELITES were discoveries long after they were current. Thank God for this rediscovered 'new'(to me) ear candy cos I find it so hard to listen to a complete cd of the newer stuff. I don't even know the categories!I'm like a sad ole troll scanning the bins seeing no names I recognize , no songs I know...tissue pleez! |

Thanks a lot for all the answers... I must add some things... Cool Ju, the UNI release is NOT a CD but an LP and I HAVE it! LOL I am looking for the CD The LOVELITE YEARS (which is not on UNI but on a label for which I do not have the reference) Juice thanks for the info, this is precisely why I am looking for that CD because I know about the extra sides included on that CD... and I love Deniece Williams! I will try your leads... even though I was in Chicago quite a few times last year I was never able to find this CD... I also usually go to the record shops on N.Clark (good shops by the way for vinyl hunters like me... it's very seldom that I look for a CD like I am looking for this particular one... I am a vinyl freak and it makes up for 99.99% of what spins in this house of mine! LOL) And by the way Juice, if you see that Lovelites original LP for $20 or even $40 or even $60, jump on it cos' I have never seen it go for less than a cool $100 (and I am still way below LOL) on Ebay... Thanks again everybody Wonder B If you mess with the 'fro, you gotta go! (Message edited by Wonder B on May 18, 2004) |

The "Lovelite Years" refers to the time they were on the Lovelite label, after Uni/Revue. Yes, Patti Hamilton and her Lovelites group did sing "How Can I Tell My Mom and Dad?" Lovelite was an independent Chicago label distributed by Chess at one time and also by Master Key Records. I believe Patti had some participation in the label. |

Wonder B: There's a guy named Craig Moorer who is a dealer. His stuff can be a little pricey & he doesn't seem to know what's truly rare. I paid $20 for The Delfonics Return LP, which should've been a $5 cut-out LP at best. I believe that the Deniece Chandler sides were those that she recorded for the Toddlin' Town & Lock labels from '67-'69. However, check Craig Moorer records by mail. Also, a subscription to Goldmine or DISCoveries may lead you to lesser known dealers. I've gotten many bargains that way. |

Oh Brother Love you are killing me with that one, I have been looking to get a promo pic of the Lovelites for ages!!!! Thanks Juice I know Craig too... Since the stuff I am missing is kind of rare, he IS a bit pricey for me although like you said you never know... maybe you can spot the elusive mispriced rare gem sometimes... As for other dealers, I have been reading Goldmine and DISCoveries for years now and I have pretty much tried them all! I look all day long on the net too... but spending has it's limits and my wife makes sure that I keep this in mind EVERY day! She's right too! If it wasn't for her, I'd be bankrupt! Hi Brother Love, The flip side to "My Conscience" is "Man In My Life" the Bside. There is another single I have by Patti & the Lovelites is "Oh My Love" b/w "Love So Strong". At one time many moons ago I had all The Lovelites and/or Patti & The Lovelites singles, even their "How Can I Tell My Mom & Dad, cause this 45 single sold like wildfire that it was hard to find, not even at the stores anymore, cause I remember so. I kinda do remember a couple of releases on Cotillon i once had. I never owned any LP's of this group. I'm hoping my favorite DJ PJ that spins alot of classic dusty's on his tuesday nite show will hopefully be coming on board soon. I've told him all about SD. I hope he is so he'll get registered. |

I always wondered why they recorded the songs My Conscience & It's Your Conscience, with such similar titles. Although different songs, I imagine that there was some confusion regarding these songs. I always preferred It's Your Conscience. What a song!! |

Another DJ friend of mine said to me once That Patti Still has control of her business and songs and that she controls the way her records are distributed and marketed. Maybe that's why many of the releases are hard to come by, with the exception of a few avenues that someone can get their hands on these rare of a gem collector items.

Hi Robb, The singles that Patti and group recorded for the Bandera label, I remember having. I never gotten a chance to play the single. Didn't the group cut 4 sides for Bandera? Also wasn't it a personel change within The Lovelites afer the Bandera releases. I seem to have read that somewhere. |

Don: I have seen only one Bandera single by The Lovelights. So if they had released 2 singles, or recorded 2 cuts that went unreleased, I'd love to hear them (as their Bandera cuts were, by far, my favourites of their work). I have Bandera 2515- "You Better Stop It"/b/w "I Found Me A Lover"-both fantastic A-side material. They were both written by Patti and Rosena (Rosey) Hamilton and Ernie Hines. They were produced by "W.N.". Anyone know who that could be? I think I remember hearing that there were four members when they were on Bandera. Maybe Patti's sister Rosey was also a member then, and she dropped out before they became popular? Or, if there were always only three, her sister left and was replaced? |

A Nice Discography Brother Love. I did have their whole singles on 45 except for "Get It Off My Conscience" b/w "Oh What A Day". Hey Robb K, sorry for the mix up. I mistaken the groups Bandera sides with the Lock sides. Because they seem to have come out similarly around the same time? I know after looking at Brother Love's discography it does ring a bell. Although "How Can I Tell...." I remember it sounded different at an slower pace, though the idea was there. I may be wrong or it's the very same track? |
