1) Could go on Chappelle and go gangsta! 2) Could knock out "Sir Duke" in the style of Johnny Gill! Come on, now, admit it! It was better than you thought! Peace. |

Wayne Brady made a more convincing thug on Chappelle. He also sang better on Whose Line Is It with Drew Carey. |

Gladys and Lionel were the stars. The Temps, I love those guys so much, maybe too much to say anything hurtful. GOD, I miss David, Eddie and Paul. Perhaps my expectations were too high. Or maybe I'm just an old woman from the most dynamic music era of all time. Tonight, my age glared right back into my eyes. A- |

Hi Arcadia! No, your expectations weren't too high. The production values were too low. I wish that hadn't been the case! By the way, you're not old! Be forever young |

I wasn't expecting very much, but the show didn't even reach my lowered standards. After I saw Ms. Birdsong, I was pretty much done anyway. I don't think I've seen her since Motown 25...she's still a major babe! I taped the show, but would check in every now and then to see if Lionel and the Commodores would do a number together. I noticed, during the ending credits, that Lionel and Walter Orange were standing next to each other. Made for a nice photo op. |

I already posted under another thread that I thought this show was poorly produced.WHERE WAS MARTHA REEVES??She was in all the TV spot promos for the thing. What happened?Thats why the finale was where there were really no close ups and they went to showing "how they flew there, where they stayed ect"cause they didn't want to show Martha, Lois and Delphine on the stage I guess.Man, Gladys Knight & Thelma Houston sure showed up those young, weak voice girls. |

Gladys was the only redeeming factor, she was the bomb! Gladys' performance moved me to shed a tear. Where did all the good music go? Left behind in yesteryear, I cried for that too!! I longed for the songs and singers of yesteryear who are all but gone or disappearing one by one. Also it didn't make any sense that with many of the Motown artists still living, why would they have kids singing their songs instead of the original artists themselves.(? Hmmm)... I guess its promotion to look at the bigger picture, money in their pockets, the youngsters are their new Motown, their financial future. I don't like it, its a dis to the artists who are still here alive & well in MHO. S.S.

Hello everyone! Just giving a quick shoutout to everyone here on SD. Hope things are going well for everyone. Now for the Motown show... One word: HORRENDOUS!!!!!! I'm in agreement that Gladys Knight & Thelma Houston were the saving graces of the show. I am mystified as to why they don't invite the surviving singers to sing their own songs. I'm tired of hearing other folks performing(or is it mangling??) 'What Becomes Of The Brokenhearted'. Isn't Jimmy Ruffin still performing???? Why didn't anybody call him??? This is crazy. And Cedric & Kimberly Locke were laughable to say the least. Why couldn't they get Kim Weston??? I don't even want to comment on dreadful Macy Gray's 'rendition' of Marvin's 'Let's Get It On'. I'm not even going to go any further. For the person who said they saw age when they watched the show, hell, even I was offended & pissed off by the quality of the show. It was shitty to say the least. I agree with SoulSister it was a slap in the face to the surviving Motown artists. They deserve more respect than this show represented. And that's my buck fifty. Have a great day everyone! Peace! (Message edited by Common on May 18, 2004) |

Wayne Brady sucked. Anybody ever notice those coffee creamer commercials he had out where just as he sings that life without this creamer in the woman's-body shaped bottle "would mean boring black coffee for me," the woman who portrays his wife comes in the scene? The sub-text is quite a take on the popular cream in the coffee metaphor. I think they finally pulled it. |

Being the optimistic person that I am, I was secretly hoping that I would be entertained to the point of euphoria. Guess what--- I WAS WRONG!! I TOTALLY and then some agree with everyone in the fact that M-45 was one of the worst shows EVER broadcast on prime time television. What were they thinking?? Where were their heads at? I have come to the conclusion that most of the powers that be in the biz are tone deaf. |

I have seen the future and it does not include Motown. The show that I witnessed last evening had to be the worst combination of old and new acts that I have ever seen. What the hell was Macy Gray doing singing Lets Get it On ? Theo Peoples still looks and sounds too "Temptation" to be leading the Four Tops, although I did enjoy them and Ms. Gladys Knight. How many times must we hear that worn out Tempt medley ?Why not Stay,Fifty Fifty Love or something that resembled The New Temptations !! Raven and Wayne please...although Mr. Brady had more life than most, his was an energetic performance. Smokey and Joss Stone ? Come on Smokester....where in the heck was Teena Marie....why not have Rick James introduce her ! I thought they said the Funk Brothers were there......where ? I swear to God that I could have put together a better show than this mess. Where was Stevie ? Jacksons ? Where was Willie Hutch, Norman Whifield, Did they forget about Edwin Starr, Bobby Taylor, Originals, Marevelettes, Martha Reeves, and all the other great and near great Motown acts and songwriters including the Miracles. I guess I'll have to accept that the show was what it was,but if I had laid out cold cash for tickets I would be one mad brother. Lets face it gang Motown has become "No-town. I would surmise that my love affair with the present version of Motown as depicted last evening is over and I have been sentenced to embrace the memories of my youth when this company was indeed the Sound of Young America, we shall not see the likes of her again. Speaking of time warps, that show must have been in a wormhole. I shall rest now and speak of this tragedy no more. PS : When I say forgot I meant at least acknowledge those folks who are no longer here..or play some part of there songs...'I'm getting ready for the Function at The Junction....like this would have been the approriate juncture for G levert, Joss Stone, Macy Gray.........whoever.......... ....... |

Even a good singer as Brian McKnight came across poorly. Judging from how both Brian & Wayne Brady were constantly singing behind the beat, I'm inclined to think that there was a monitoring problem involving delay happening. They were always behind the beat! |

Another quetion, I wanted to ask you and Randy the lp Kim put out on People you mentioned on another form, who did that song sound to you with the male background vocalist's on it and if you don't mind me asking, what is the name of the song.
