As I was listening to the Nightflight edition of the internet radio station the other night, they played Choosey Beggar. When it went off, the dj would not say right away who was singing it, he was going through some other stuff, etc. Now, I was liking this version, but could not figure out who it was. He then said, if I heard him right, that it was DEBBY BOONE!!!!!! I said "WHAT!" Can someone confirm this, as I have searched the web for this info and have not found anything!!! If that is correct, all I can say is "I'm scared of her!" |

Well, Debbie Boone or Debby Boone, whichever way she spells it, WAS on Motown with her sisters as, I believe, the Boone Family. Their first single was "Please Mr. Postman" done almost exactly like the Marvelettes' original. They also did "When The Lovelights Start Shinning Through His Eyes", but done as a ballad and I have to say, it wasn't bad. They did have an lp so perhaps "Choosey Beggar" was on their lp or it may have even been a single by them. They didn't have any hits, however. Their time at the label was in the 70s before she went solo and had her big hit "You Light Up My Life". Other than this I have only ever known "Choosey Beggar" to be by Smokey. |

Hello Everyone. Randy .. I thought of THE BOONES as well, and have been scouring the Net for the last 20 minutes but to no avail. They also did a version of "My Guy", which even got a U.K. single release ( It was on either Rare Earth or Mowest I think), so it sounds like the L.P. was probably a collection of covers of classic Motown songs. The show in question featured rare and unreleased Motown. I didn't have the opportunity to hear the show but bet that it is a still unreleased cut that someone snuck out of the vaults years ago (probably on acetate). |
