"Forever Came Today", The Jackson 5's final Motown single and the remake of the 1968 Diana Ross & The Supremes hit was released on this day in 1975. Produced by Brian Holland and arranged by James Anthony Carmichael, the single peaked at #6 on Billboard's Hot Soul Singles chart and #60 on the Hot 100. The b-side, "All I Do Is Think Of You", written by Holland and Michael Lovesmith peaked at #50 on the Hot Soul Singles chart. Troop took it to #1 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart in the spring of 1990.

"Forever Came Today" by MICHAEL/MICHELE JAX & THE JACKSONS had the unique effect to me, and many others, trust me, of one "girl group" doing an in-song tribute to the song originator girl group. In this case, it was THE SUPREMES with DIANA ROSS, little Michael/Michele's idol -- then and now. Of course, even the mighty and popular Jacksons could not out-do "FCT" on the charts as DRS' original version far surpassed theirs. Remember, on THE J-5's very first album, they did their rendition of another D.R.S. single release, "The Young Folks (U Gotta Make Way For)".

I always found that Jackson 5 cover of "Forever Came Today" a little over produced. I did like the tension leading up to the chrous--but it's always been more of "girl's group" song to me.

Zebop's got the drift! MICHELE & THE JAX' version/production of "FCT" would have been over-the-top for the D.R.S. "live" finale concert in Las Vegas; however, I, of course, loved it! Plus, it moved Michele "up the ladder" as a prominent female vocalist. I wonder what color gown she wore when she recorded it?

That song was over the top of over the top. I wonder if they've got a copy of J5 doing "He's My Man" in the vaults.

Zee-Bop! -- on the eve of M-45. Happy Motown!

That is funny, too, and if "they" don't have "He's My Man" by MJJ in the vaults, I bet she has it at "Neverland". She does have her own recording studio, U know.

Several years ago DARLENE LOVE did a great, updated version of her classic rock 'n' soul hit song, "He's Sure The BOY I Love". Well, the new version was appropriately re-named "He's Sure The MAN I Love". Of course, it has the same lyrics (he may not be the one I've been dreaming of..., still collects the welfare checks..., etc.) but "Boy" II "Man". In the reverse, do U think in MICHAEL/MICHELE's song that she changed "Man" =to= "Boy"? Thus, "He's My BOY"! Yeah, and that title reminds me of a SUPREMES-type song.

With her own =private= recording studio, MJJ can do almost anything, as we've come to find out. Let's see, another 'special interest' song MICHELE would have done 4-sure is her self-penned song, "Muscles". DIANA grandly and effectively served as surrogate on delivering that hit. I'd luv to see that MJJ video! Hot-hot-hot!!!

For M-45, we'll all get to see MJJ's bro JERMAINE dueting with a real white guy on "I'll Be There"! It's the logical progression.

Enjoy the show -- 30 hours from Motown!

Even if you don't care for an artist, because of the way they look, you should not refer to them as "female" when they are male, or vice versa. We all want to be treated as "human beings" regardless of what sex we are. It is called RESPECT!!! Thank YOU!!! :-)

I personally, enjoyed the J-5's rendition of FCT, never even compared it to Diana/Supremes version. I thought it was different and that is the way it should've been.

Greetings, Charise,

Sorry, U "Miss Read" it. :-( I luv MJ. He's the best! We are just being "real" and having good-natured fun. We're upfront with our thoughts that others think or say say but don't admit. This is the inside lingo from the "The In-Crowd". As a matter of fact, referring to a male as a female and a female as a male, where appropriate or where perceived, is a vintage Gay tradition. Now, this form of light-hearted dishing has been adopted by many -- if not most -- in the non-Gay community. Listen to the late night comedians. They all do it. It's just that, I believe, ZeeBop and I are even funnier. Do U consider, for example, BILLIE JEAN KING and/or ELLEN and/or ROSIE as feminie girls? I don't! They're not! I refer to each as "he" or "him". Their manish haircuts would indicate that is how they wish to be perceived. Privately, I'm sure they do, too. And, we refer to WAYNE BRADY as WANDA BRADY. I am not gonna explain that one. :-) Or, Miss CLAY from "American Idol". :-) C'mon, Charise! So, next time U see MJJ on t.v. in the news, check out the (very) long, (very) straight, (very) womanish midnight black hair. Actually, I give her a lot of credit for doing that, for being herself, even in the public's "headlights". Also, MJJ is not wearing that to be called "Mister" or "Sir" much less "butch". :-)

Just like if someone dishes the U.S.P.S., I read them. If someone says "snail mail", I tell them that they are a liar and that the people in the postal system -- such as U & Juice & my best friend Randi -- work very hard and are very proud. :-) In Manhattan, mail is next day delivery. It's like "express mail" and for only 37 cents. Look to hear the postal theme song on M-45: "Please Mr. Postman". They should have another girl group do a follow-up song: "Please Miss Postman". Maybe the ones who did "FCT". Allllrite!

I trust this has all been helpful. U would never have believed the conversations between me and EDDIE the K -- and that was 15 years ago and back 15 years before that! We rarely used the "correct" pronoun. Do U know who we meant when we said "the bitch"? Answer: DR! Did U guess who correctly, Charise? I luv that name. No, dear, sorry, =not= Miss DIANA ROSS and the stage is yours. Guess one more time, dear. U got it! And, we luved HIM!

"Luv Guess Who" :-)

P.S. - Can U maybe edit your "post", Charise?

P.P.S. - I'm glad that U let us know how U perceived this so that I can clarify for others. If U re-read the 411, U'll realize that this is nothing de-humanizing. On the contrary, trust me!

Note: Less than 24 hours from M-45!

Hey Charise, I agree with you. I know Mike has problems but that should not reflect upon his work as an artist. And I loved the J-5 rendition of "Forever Came Today", one of the best disco songs out that year!! I don't think it was any more overproduced than any of the other disco records out...

In fact I love the whole MOVING VIOLATION album. I still play it regularly.

Stonewall...you are soooo hyped about Motown 45, aren't you?? Me too. We're gonna have a lot to talk about tomorrow!! LOL

I actually liked the J5 version of "Forever Came Today"...if I remember correctly it was an extended version on the LP. I also liked the Brian Holland produced "Just A Little Bit of You" by Michael Jackson on Motown, in fact thats my fave MJ record.

The Disc-O-Tech #3 version of "Forever Came Today" is on the 2001 reissue of Dancing Machine/Moving Violation too.

NYC-Diva, the Moving Violation album is also one of my favorite albums!! The title song, Body Language, All I Do(one of the ultimate slow jams from the J-5, & who could forget Breezy!!!! I know that people make fun of different celebrities, and I have laughed many a time, but after a while it gets old and some don't know when to quit. I try to steer clear of calling people out of their name or making inappropriate remarks. I look at it like this, God forbid, that I get in an accident and become disfigured or loose a limb, people could talk about me, because I may look like a freak to them, it would be wrong for them to do that, just as it was for me to make comments about someone. You reap what you sow!!
