Hi again, soulful brothers & sisters! Hello, Vonnie, very good thread for refreshing the memorie! BTW, I think that The Monster Orchestra is only owned by John Davis without other MFSB members (?) Also, I think Ritchie family is only arranger Richard Rome as PIR personnel member (?) Here's some other (if i'm not wrong): -IKE TURNER: Ikettes -STEVIE WONDER: Wonderlove -MFSB: Dexter Wansel, Norman Harris, H-B-Y, Michael Pedicin Jr., Salsoul Orchestra, Vincent Montana Sextet, Montana -FANIA ALL-STARS: Roberto Roena, Ray Barreto, Johnny Pacheco, Arturo Sandoval -IRAKERE: Chucho Balds -AIRTO MOREIRA: Airto & Flora, Fourth World, Flora Purim -EARTH WIND & FIRE: Phillip Bailey -CHICK COREA: Return To Forever -HERBIE HANCOCK: Headhunters -DONALD BYRD: Blackbyrds, Kevin Toney -WAR: Lee Oskar -SLY & THE FAMILY STONE: Larry Graham, Graham Central Station -ISAAC HAYES: Isaac Hayes Movement -WEATHER REPORT: Joe Zawinul, Sadao Watanabe -MAHAVISHNU ORCH.: Jacko Pastorius -POLICE: Sting -GENESIS: Phil Colins I think i consult my bibilography and discography and come on again later (perhaps i should make this before!) Manny, The Ritchie Family, in its ORIGINAL incarnation, was to be an ORCHESTRA much in the vain of MFSB with female singers ala the Three Degrees. ALL the musicians from MFSB were the musicians on those records. In fact, I got the call first, so it could have been the Eli family or something like that. It was the "brain child" of thelate Jacques Morali.(thats another story) Soon after because of the cost of showcasing such a large group, it was whittled down to the three girls. The Sweeties were the session singers. The Monster Orchestra was only a name. The musicians were MFSB and the girls were the Sweeties. I know these things because I was there!

Did Bootsie Collins spin out of the Famous Flames, or did he spin into the Parla-Funkedelic Thang before the Rubber Band? |

Bootsy & Catfish Collins were in a group called The Pacesetters. When James' band walked out on him in a dispute before a concert, he brought the boys on board. As he found James to be abit restrictive, he fell in line with George Cs Parliament/Funkadelice Thang, where he posed as Casper. From there, he morphed into Bootsy's Rubberband. |

Hey, Mr. Electronic! Pardon me, please and, as always, many thanks for your precious info "by first hand"!. I only have a doubt because i have read that Richard Rome formed Ritchie Family and John Davis The Monster Orch. and in the disco music website where i read this don't says nothing about other members (except the name of the three Ritchie's girls). Reynolds (solo act); Ron Banks (solo act) -JONES GIRLS: Shirley Jones (solo act) -(As a tribute to John Whitehead) EPSILONS-TALK OF THE TOWN: McFaden & Whitehead; John Whitehead (solo act; i see a review of a John's solo album) -BRECKER BROTHERS: Randy (solo act); Michael (solo act) -IMPRESSIONS: Curtis (solo act); Jerry Butler (solo act) -CHI-LITES: Eugene Record (solo act) -SPINNERS: G.C. Cameron (solo act); Philippe Winne (solo act) -OS CATEDRTICOS: Eumir Deodato (solo act; Dom Um Romao (solo act) -LIGHT OF THE WORLD: Beggar & Co; Incognito -ROTARY CONNECTION: Minnie Ripperton (solo act) -THE METERS: The Neville Brothers; Aaron Neville (solo act) -STAPLE SINGERS: Mavis Staples (solo act) Peace & Soul Food |

THE BLUEBELLES, yes, but I believe the other two are a little murky on whether they were really The Bluebelles? Do U have more 411? Were they the same group members? I doubt it. Clearly, no spin-offs from THE MARVELETTES, eh, Jimma? Wow! That Patti has been around singin' a long, long, long time yet looks and is great!

It's "Stone" with a capital "S", mr. mackey as in Bob! U brought back quick-sand memories. So, let's recap. ORDETTES + DEL CAPRIS = BLUEBELLES That's what came back to me. So, I'm starting with THE BLUEBELLES as the other 2 lil' girl groups preceded it. Thus, we are both correct as we are starting at different points. Besides, I am not having a heading that says: The Odettes. What a name! Ugh. We like strong "ETTES" like THE VELVELETTES, THE RONETTES and, of course, THE MARVELETTES. |

Juice, your comment on the Pacesetters and Bootsy was absolutely right but before joining P-Funk after leaving James Brown they mutated into two groups Bootsey, Phelps & the Complete Strangers, and then the House Guests... And by the way on the subject of P-Funk spin-offs acts, we could also add to Vonnie's initial list which was : GEORGE CLINTON Parliament P-Funk All-Stars Parlet Brides of Funkenstein Funkadelics Bootsy's Rubber Band Parliament-Funkadelic Then we can also add (acts who had albums of their own) ... : Eddie Hazel Fuzzy Haskins Sweat Band Philippe Wynne Godmoma Mutiny (w/ Jerome Brailey) Jimmy G & the Tackheads Otis Day & the Nights OG Funk (Billy Bass Nelson) Tal Ross (Funkadelic early guitarist who issued one CD in the 90's) Andr Foxxe Quazar (Glen Goins) Space Cadets Fred Wesley & the Horny Horns Dawn Silva Mallia Franklin Drugs (Clip Payne) Incorporated Thang Band (Lige Curry & Andr Foxxe) and on and on and on..., cos' I am sure I must be missing a few...! Hi, Bootsy gave me this oder: - the Pacemakers (first the Pacesetters, but they had to change the name, as there already existed another recording group by that name)in '68 - '69 -> with the Godfather as the J.B.'s - back to Cincinnati as the Houseguests in '71 -> Funkadelic -> after Funkadelic the Complete Stragers in '73; Bootsy: "after leaving Funkadelic in 1973 I felt we had been all over the world with James Brown and George Clinton and we're still 'complete strangers', so that's what I called the group." -> back to George Best regards Heikki |

Rick James' younger brother had a group that recorded 2 LP'S for Columbia. The vocalgroup's name was Process and The DooRags. I had their first LP once. The first single, I think?, was the Lamont Dozier (Rarely, heard and played) classic "FOREVER". Prince's Camp had Jill Jones Eric Leeds and Madhouse |

Yesss! IKE & TINA's IKETTES -- after they got off Mr. TURNER's rollercoaster -- became THE MIRETTES as, rather expectedly, Ikey refused to let them use the name "The Ikettes" (no doubt w/ threats of.... if they did). And, let's not forget THE ROYALETTES.... and even THE CHARMETTES.... oh, and those BOBETTES. "Roger and OUT!"

Manny .. Greetings from sunny London .. 23 degrees at 9.15 this morning ( thats 73 for those of you who stick to Fahrenheit measurements!! ). I've just seen your post from Saturday, and I have a correction to make. STEVE ARRINGTON was involved with SLAVE. It was JEFFREY OSBOURNE who was the lead singer with LTD. Oh yes .. and CLYDE McPHATTER was an original member of THE DRIFTERS .. not the COASTERS. Roger

Hi Roger! I'm glad for this hot temperature in your hometown (yesterday I suffered cold in the Pyrenees Mountains, in the "supoused" most sunny country in Europe!) Fortunatelly, here in SD have persons like you with a great knowledge for to correct who is wrong (as, frequently, myself). Effectively, Clyde was the lead with The Drifters (I always have confusion betwen Coasters and Drifters, I says "Drifters" when I wanna says "Coasters" and viceversa; ignore the reason why!) About Steve Arrington, simply i'm confused. Also, some spin-off acts like Trammps - Robert Upchurch, I knows it grace to you (for a previous trhead). Thanks you, friend. (Hope you have many more sunny days like today) Peace & Soul Food |
