FANUK, I'm so sorry that I missed that show. A friend of mine and I had spoken the night before the show about attending. I completly forgot and went to the beauty salon, when I returned home around 8:30pm there was a message on my answering machine from Billy Butler. Billy was in town with his brother Jerry and he was looking forward to my attending the show. If you wouldn't mind could you give SD a review of the show. Please!!! |

I also hd the privilege of seeing Russell Thompkins Jr and The New Stylistics at the Beacon in NYC. They were introduced as the Stylistics, and after a brief delay three guys who I never saw in my life walked onto the stage, and I thought to myself "Here is another one of those Fake copy groups". They greeted the audience and then they introduced Russell, and Russell walked onto the stage. By tis time I'm thinking" All is not lost",But I must tell you the truth, by the time they left the stage, I suddenly realized that I had just witnessed the best Stylistics show I had ever seen! They were Awesome. the choreography was smoothe, and tight, the harmony was even tighter, and believe me I have seen many, many Stylistics shows, but this one was definately the best. ......And man were they Clean!!!!!!!!!!!! They were actually billed as The Stylistics, and after seeing the PBS show from Atlantic City with the Old Stylistics, I would say yes The group that I saw at The Beacon Theater, with Russell Are New, and Much Improved. they have my vote! |

FANUK: Besides having your name in SOLID CAPITAL LETTERS, why are U =========="SHOUTING"========== at US?? No need to SHOUT! We can hear U! Internet etiquette all around the world describes and dictates that all caps is "shouting". One word here or there for emphasis is kool but please don't shout at us if U want folks to read what U write. If U notice, no one else at SDF does it. Maybe U didn't realize.... Thanx! Also, if U go to "Edit Profile", U can activate your e-mail link.

Stonewall.. Thank you for pointing my capitals out I did,nt know that, Sorry. Old New Fan.. Glad you enjoyed the show, I think the whole concert was a little too long,11 acts in all. Russell,s voice is still first class. I see they now have a young lady in the band, playing keyboards, good addition. The guys were dressed in cream tuxes, the band dressed in lavender suits, this stood out well... very clean and smart. Choreography was again, First Class. The only real gripe I have is, Russell should have been top of the bill, and should have been billed; "Russell Thompkins And The New Stylistics" not as you say The Stylistics..... having Russell on last was a bad move, as I noticed people leaving the concert, I guess to get get out of the building first, to catch cabs etc....so as to not get caught up in the rush. This was very annoying, as you can imagine. But a superb concert on the whole. I notice that the guys have a concert in Detroit on the 20th June (Fathers Day) is there any chance of Soulful Detroit doing a feature on them for this web site.........? |

Hello, Stylistics fans! I was also a true fan of those guys. I heard their "Rockin' Roll Baby" thousands of times. Is the typical album you can plays the whole A and B sides because it's the whole fantastic. Also one of my all-time instrumental favorites is a Stylistcs original, "People Make The World Go Round" by CTI All-Stars live. But it was in the first 80's i buy the "Some Things Never Change", very insipide for my taste, i give it to a friend who loves those (IMHO) "bland" soul music. I don't knows how sounds today The Stylistics, but i'm waiting some day appears a new album in the same spirit of their first 70's tunes. Perhaps a new reunion with Thom Bell and/or Dexter Wansel as in the last 70's-first 80's ("Hurry Up This Way Again", etc.). Anecdotically, recently I acquired "The Spirit Of Philadelphia" CD where appears a cover of Little Anthony & The Imperial's "Hurt So Bad" by The Philly devotions, and IMHO, the lead singer of this group is the most similar I have heard to Rusell Thompkins Jr! Peace! |
