Actually, I think the winner hands down (or up) for the most recorded Motown song of all time is "For Once In My Life." Berry Gordy wanted a song that would become a "standard." He even created a separate (from Jobete) music publishing division called Stein & Van Stock to publish the song. It was written by Ron Miller and Orlando Murden in 1965. It has been recorded by a literal "Who's Who" of entertainers since then. |

Motown Boy, U gotta be right. I know FRANK SINATRA, among many others, recorded it. When I think Motown it didn't register, if U know what I mean. I really like the song, of course. Do U think U could provide a list of artists that recorded it, maybe from the 'net and post it for the Boarders? |

I think there is a list of who recorded this song in the archives. I think the thread has a similar title as this one, also. |

Burt Bacharach wrote "Alfie" and DIONNE WARWICK had the unforgettable, inspiring, haunting #1 song with it. I also enjoy DUSTY SPRINGFIELD's take on "Alfie". Speaking of STEVIE WONDER (again), remember EIVETS REDNOW's single instrumental version of "Alfie"? The newest rendition of "Alfie" is out now on c.d.: "RON ISLEY sings BURT BACHARACH". It shows both of them side-by-side on the cover. Also included is, of course, "A House Is Not A Home" and "Anyone Who Had A Heart". The entire album is great and, IMO, a must for any soulful record afficianado! |

During the 80's there was a male singer who made over 'Reach Out' by The 4 Tops...and cant remember who it is...I actually liked the remake and I am usually very discrminative about anyone making over Motown music...especially the 4 Tops....anyone remember that remake? |

Michael Bolton was the guy who had that version of reach Out that you mention Ron Miller was the co writer of For once in my life, and yes it is THE mosts recorded Motown song. Obviously many Motown songs were remade throught the last four decades but no song comes even close to FOIML. IMO, Motown songs held their own and therefore it became very difficult to improve on a great thing. I think that the ad business has used more Motown songs than any other field. You cant improve the Mona Lisa nor reinvent the wheel. |

Eli and Handsome: Close but not quite the match that lights the cigar.... THe guy that made the song was an African American that sort of resembled Rockwell or the guy who leads The System...I know that song came out in the late 80's...and he made another campy song that did well on the pop charts....he had that leather clothes, Jheri Curl appeal....lol...sorry but true for that time...lol... |

Re: "The Boy From Crosstown" who used to be "The Boy Next Door" who nonetheless is "The Boy That Got Away" butt "He's Sure The Boy I Love". I get the message: I'll ask Diva REEVES & THE VANS to record it, too. They're the only classic Motown girl group that didn't record it! Bi the way, X-town, where is it by DRS? I missed dat one. Others here missed it, too, but are embarr-ASS-ed to ask! P.S. - "For better or worse" Mister SDF above, so to speak, is not in the "Big Apple" butt in the "Windy City" and, I believe, otherwise engaged. |

Well, whadya know, I'm overseen by Mr. Some, tanx! It's just, in this case, Mr. Hand (your other half), as MARY with a "y" sang, I "Beat U To The Punch (This Time)". And as they say on "The Wheel", it looks like you're missing an "E" in your vodka! When X-town and I get together in "Manhattan" (by D.R.S.), we'll be sure to have an "A.V." for the Chi-MAN! On the Stonewall tour, of course, will be B.B. King's Nightclub and The Stonewall Club, where, from the Wurlitzer jukebox, THE VELVELETTES used to blast out with "(Looking For A Good Man Is Like Looking For A) Needle In A Haystack". Nonetheless, as U know, I found one. My secret to a long-lasting relationship? I keep a loaded shotgun! |

P.S. - Mr. H.S., U are also missing an "E" in your "Ston_y" besides your "Absolut_ly". And, ironically, what letter is at "the top of the charts"? |

Hey Dyva! Narada Michael Walden did a version of Reach Out in 1983 on his Looking At You, Looking At Me LP. Is this the one you're thinking of?? You remember that he produced Stacy Lattisaw. Sister Sledge, himself & his sister Wanda Walden of Don't You Want My Lovin' & I Must Be Dreaming fame. |

I think the most played song is Sugar Pie Honey Bunch. It also has got to be the most popular Motown tune played in movies and in commercials. |
