I'm curious to know how many people on the forum know about the Detroit Cobras and what your reaction is to them. |

I think they're a fun band. My son turned me on to them- he's always got one of their cds going in his car. It seems like they're a very good version of the type of cover/party bands that used to be real prevalent. |

Hi Sideburn and Steve K, Their name sound very familiar. Steve K, does your son have an CD of The Detroit Corbas older material. And can you tell me what are some of the songs you've heard, maybe I can help? |

I've seen The Detroit Cobras live at the Double Door in Chicago. I guess I would classify them as 60s garage rock. I thought they were very good live. The frontwoman has "it" (whatever that is) and knows how to perform. She has an Elvis type sneer facial expression that she only used once in the entire performance where others might overuse it. The Music? - Mostly "rave-up" versions of R&B songs sung with a slight country twang. Not bad...good but not outstanding. I'd go see them again though. |

Yeah, they do covers of R&B songs , but not the obvious ones bar bands covers. For example they do Bye Bye Baby by Mary Wells and 'Slummer the Slum' by the 5 Royales, but with a couple gtrs , bass and drums; nothing original about them, but they are in a likable niche and do what they do pretty well |

Hi Steve, The next time they perform there I'll check them out. I might know someone who might have their CD. The last time I was at The Double was to check out keyboard wiz Bernie Worrell and his band The Woo Warriors. I remember it as if it we're yesterday. It was on the Saturday 5th of July last summer, how I know, cause Berry White passed away on the 4th on a Friday. Myself and P-Funk Cover Artist Pedro Bell was there on hand and after the show too SteveK. The Double Door has always have great music no matter tastes of music.

I've been a monster fan since their very first gig(a party at their rehearsal space). I have all their releases, no matter how obscure and I even shot the picture that ended up on the back of their last cd. Has anyone heard them in the new Bud Light commercial? I do, however, prefer the original band to the "new" Cobras. |

Don ; Speaking of Pedro Bell, I think I read somewhere he is losing his vision - do you know if thats true? What a tragedy that would be; I've always enjoyed his artwork, especially those album covers |
