Hey Lenny, That picture is real cool of Jocko, that is how I remember him back in the day. I remember his original rap, that went something like this: Hip Hip Hop this is the Jock on the scene with the record machine, saying oow papado how do you do. |

The way I remember it was something like: "ee-tiddley-ock, ho this the Jock, and I'm back on the scene..." and the rest as you said it. And "12-80 on the dial, right in the middle of the big big pile". "Ahhh back up from it!" |

Hello Everyone. I was never lucky enough to hear JOCKO HENDERSON on the radio but I do know the name. I'm assuming that this is the same JOCKO? I have a 12" of JOCKO rapping over the backing music of "Ain't No Stopping Us Now". It was one of the very first "Rap" records to get released (at least here in the U.K.) on Philadelphia International records back in 1980. Roger |

One of the earliest Rap jams, this was HUGE in NY! Ooh papa doo, bang-a-lang-a-loo I've got tons & tons & tons of fun for you! It's the bootenheit...and it's just right! |

We used to do a Jocko hand clap that went like this: Eee tiddly ock, this is the Jock back on the scene with the record machine sayin ooo papa do! How do you do! Have no fear for Jocko's here! Jocko, Jocko, where you been? Round the corner, back again. Jocko, Jocko, where's your wife" In the kitchen cookin rice. (Then the rhythm changed to: Jocko came from overseas He don't like no girls in black kha-kis He don't like the way they do the slop So when you're up, you're up and when you're down, you're down and if you mess with the Jock, you're upside down! Just found this out in recent years that the jump rope game we played" Keepa Calla Balla" is supposed to be "Keep the Kettle Boiling"! Who knew! That's ebonics at it's finest! LOL!

Back in the '50s, the beginning of Black radio, DJ Buggs Scruggs used a similar line for his shows at WCIN: "This is Buggs Scruggs The Man with the plugs Back on the scene With my record machine Can you dig it??" Mayhaps that was a take off across the nation, eh?? (Note to Nosey: check out Toni Morrison's "Song of Solomon"; lots of childhood sayings, and they ain't Ebonics either!!) |

Roger: are you sure that wasn't Jockey Jack Gibson?? Another early pioneer of Black radio out the Memphis chain of the '50s, that held on. |

Hey Rasputin. No, the JOCKO who raps over "Ain't No Stopping Us Now" on Philadelphia International is JOCKO HENDERSON .. The title is "Rhythm Talk" ( I'd forgotten it momentarily when I posted on Wednesday ) .. the lyrics are as Juicefree20 stated. Actually, on reflection, the rap is rather "naughty", .. very naughty really!! Roger

Hi lennytone; I'm back and received your video of Aesop's fables, it brought back memories I'd long forgot about some of those cartoons! Thanks much!!!!!!! I'll be sending you something next week, I'll try to get it out before we go to Boston. Lenny, great pix of "Jocko"! I had his album of compilations back in 1961 (I think), anyway it was the one where he had a space helmut on and sitting on a rocket ship! LOL! Those were the days when I listened to his album, Murray the K's, Paragons Meet The Jesters, Rumble, and all the girl groups of the day. Thanks for the memories! S.S. |
