Had a listen...yet another reason why I will only listen to Dennis Edwards's version of the Tempts...I want my Temptations to sound like the group I loved..not another Hip Hop group... Barry |

Barry, I think what we've got to remember is The Temptations are now at a cross-roads. Do they try and keep up with the times or do they do what they've always done? I think the two new singles are good but I can understand that they may not appeal to the fans of the classic Temptations sounds. I think the group are trying to appeal to a younger audience although this could well be a problem due to the very poor marketing strategies employed by Motown and the fact that groups such as The Temptations, Ojay's and such aren't fashionable in todays here one minute not the next industry. From what i've heard especially 'Somethin Special' I have been impressed. Joe sounds fantastic on bass as does G.C & Terry. Time will tell regarding the rest of the album but give it a chance. As for it being like any other Hip Hop group's work I can't agree with that. For me this is not Hip-Hop far from it in-fact but is a nice nu soul record i.m.o Sean http://www.seanlivesey.com |

It's always the question--go forward or stay behind. But staying behind means to die. The real test is whether one can do both, move forward and keep the good of what was in the past. Dennis Edwards Temptations have done nothing new, merely a stale repetition of what was. The real Temptations have always gone forward. It's a challenge and it's a bit scary at times. But in any field one must go forward. I hope Sean is right and that they will go forward with something new. Everyone must know that today's music is dead and dull sounding. Listened to Mary J. Blige the other day and ws bored to tears. But when the Tempts bring those beautiful harmonies into their songs, it's simply amazing. |

LOL Barry know what you mean! It is about making money and at the end of the day its the career the guys have chosen. Like I say I like the tracks but understand and respect people were they say they don't. Somethin Special should appeal to a big audience but what I want to know is will it ever get the radio exposure it needs? With living in the UK Iam not at the forefront of what is happening in the U.S in terms of sales etc and radio play. But if the UK radio stations are anything to go by the track won't get any play on the highly comerical radio stations over here. We will see but along with that and the lacklustre promotion and marketing from Motown it will be hard for the guys.

Sean, to tell you the truth, I don't even know what criteria they use for chart placement. There are virtually no single releases anymore, nowhere near music's heyday. I just don't don't what they use as a basis anymore. |
