Oh yes I agree! It is hard to choose who was better also because of their differences. They were both great...their albums remind me of everyone sitting at a barbecue! |

I love these guys.... I also love Sil Austin and his long out of print album "Plays Pretty for the People".......Austin has been unjustly overlooked for years, but he defined soulful sax as much as anyone.... |

I thought that Junior had that grits & gravy sound. The brother blew sounds straight out of a Summer barbecue, you could smell the hot sauce. I was 11 & was at Mt Morris Park with the family when it came over the radio that King Curtis had been stabbed to death in front of his house. At that age, I knew of him, not as much as I knew later. Either way, he was great. I loved his sax riff on Aretha's Save Me!!! |

Kev, I was nineteen and it never fails that all through my life because I was so deep into music, a death of someone like Paul Williams, King Curtis, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, and more always seemed to bring a moment of clarity to anything that I was involved with...guess I also suffer from the universal psycological effect of the violent passing of Martin, Kennedy and Malcom X. And the band played on...... |
