Firstly, I'm very glad to know that LUTHER VANDROSS is alive. Secondly, with all things considered, I'd have to ultimately vote "NO" as to whether LV should have been on the show at this time. My lingering reaction was that it was disturbing, exploitive and invasionary.

Stonewall, after watching this show several times over the weekend, I can see why you'd think that. But he contacted Oprah and requested the interview at this time. One part of the interview struck me particularly hard and hopefully many others. He said "I did this to myself. I wish I hadn't." Being a diabetic, it was a harsh reminder to me of what will happen. And if it hit me that way, it surely hit others. So perhaps seeing the results of what can happen, he saved a few lives with this interview. Knowing the details of his stroke and how long he went without assistance, it really is a miracle that he is alive, even though he may not think so. Let's pray for 2 miracles for him -- the second one being able to function independently again. |

Child of Love..... It wasn't the I/V per se, it was the condition of the "patient" but as my Mother reminded me, KIRK DOUGLAS does it regularly and he was the recipient of a massive stroke and is greatly impaired with his movement, speech, etc. besides being in his 80s, which makes it even worse. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -- Linda Di..... Yes, I agree with U agreeing with me (of course) and also that LUTHER will help save lives (great point) with this by "coming out" with the "411" just as MAGIC JOHNSON -- unlike ROCK HUDSON -- did regarding A.I.D.S. I must say, too, to be perfectly candid, that unless I missed it in the 13 minutes that I didn't see, it was an opportunity missed for Luther to "come out" with other "411", too. That also would be helpful in saving lives for youngins who commit suicide in part due to a lack of role models for their orientation. In any event, let us pray that Luther regains his "independence" in all ways. P.S. Joyous regards to FREDA! I hope we see her on "M-45" a week from today as she was there! |

I hear ya, Stonewall, about role models for our young people. That is so sadly lacking in our society, and it doesn't look to be getting better any time soon. Hatred still abounds ... just different reasons for hating. Luther has adamantly stated publicly that his personal life shall remain just that -- personal. People go public with what they can. He's been upfront about his constant weight battles, and subsequent health problems. Perhaps that enough for him to carry. Just my take on the whole thing ... I love me some Luther ... unconditionally. And I believe the world does too! |

I came away with a heightened sense of gratitude after seeing this interview. It's amazing how we take things like feeding ourselves, putting on our clothes, and having a sense of control over our bodies for granted. Seeing this able-bodied man reduced to this state of incapacity was a serious wake-up call. I felt a sense of optimism for Luther. The man is a fighter and he's genuinely blessed to have folks in this life who REALLY care about him. He's in my thoughts and prayers... |
