"Bring The Boys Home" -- it's FREDA! {sp.}. That is a simply natural, beautiful and colorful photo. I'd guess 1971? P.S. "Soul-A", with this great new Board and its expanded features, U can now "edit" and correct Freda Payne's name in your heading. (Message edited by STONEWALL on May 08, 2004) |

Oh, actually Jimma, I'm not an "Inglush" teacher butt I do believe that we can and should spell our artists' names correctly and, if someone errs and someone else points it out, it is nothing to be bothered about. Be glad of it -- it's called learning, part of this Board process. Ask FREDA if she'd prefer her name spelled right or wrong, Jima Mac. On one of the other files recently, Jimi, someone mentioned the group "THE HONEYCOMB"? Another good and observant Board member (Tony R.) beat me to the punch that time and pointed out the correction to THE HONEY CONE. Alllrite! F.Y.I., I do own "Proofreaders Unlimited", so I peronally know more about spelling, grammar, syntax, capitalization, etc. than a teacher -- or a lawyer (especially). Whenever I spot any proofreading error on the S.D.F. general 411 or administrators' section, I send them a private e-mail. I must say that they always appreciate it and always send me a thank U e-mail to prove it, as recently as yesterday. Further, they encourage me to "keep an eye". And, now, it's back to the music and the singers and the producers and the songwriters, etc.... P.S. Gymie, don't think that I don't appreciate your humor with that twisted spelling game. As U can see, I know how to play it very well, Gymmy. (Message edited by STONEWALL on May 08, 2004) |

Now Soulaholic, that's just downright unamerican! I was all set to break out the champagne, only to find that you've tortured my soul with another picture! Those are my kind of numbers, however, if those numbers were 36-30-42, it would still be all good! It's alright for a girl to have a little something extra, know what I'm saying? As for dialing 10....911 would be more like it! Hurt me Freda, HURT ME!!!!PLEASE!!!!! Juice (Message edited by Juicefree20 on May 08, 2004) |

Y'all Crazy! LOL! If it wasn't for me asking Weldon he wouldn't have posted that beautiful picture of Miss Payne on the other thread! You guys can back off because Freda is all mine. Haha. LINDA, WHEN YOU TALK TO FREDA WILL YOU PLEASE ASK HER TO MARRY ME? I'm an educated 23 year old young man with plenty of energy and I promise not to desert her on our wedding night like that idiot did in the song 'Band Of Gold'. WHAT KIND OF IDIOT LEAVES FREDA PAYNE ON THEIR WEDDING NIGHT? If I do leave for some reason we will both have more fun before I go than she did with that creep! |

I don't like that lil' mustache on M-Jay. He has the wrong look/the wrong orientation for that. His transformation -- c'mon, let's give credit -- is really incredible since we all recall when he used to be a black boy and nows he's more like a.... Anyway, I'm glad that the world's best entertainer 86'd the fuzz since that foto was taken. Personally, I wished he had kept his old color butt, hey, it is long gone. ------------------------------ ------------------------------ -- Dear Linda Di: Tell FREDA that I still have the original, famous programs from when she was "At The Copa" in 1971 and our pix backstage! FREDA hit it big in 1970 about the same time as the historic one-year anniversary of the now famous "Stonewall Civil Rights Rebellion". FREDA was fully supportive with dat! "She Brought The Joy"!

I saw Freda Payne around 2-3 years ago, with Edwin Starr ( God rest his soul ) and Martha Reeves in London. I thought she was a stunningly beautiful woman, every bit as lovely as in the '70s. Juice, please correct me if I'm wrong, but haven't you tried to meet a few of the beautiful ladies mentioned here on SDF? Yesss, Juice-E, exactly! Very "Overboard", even 4 U, IMO. I'm not going into any dish detail here; however, Go-GLADYS never had the "visual appeal" of a DIANA or a FREDA or a MARI or a BRENDA... anymore than MELVIN had the appeal of an EDDIE or a PAUL (WMS.) or a DAVID. As noted above, U were the one who asked for Go-Gladys' phone number -- and not in a musical sense. It leads one to think that your choice of the day tomorrow will be 'REE REE. C'mon! Either U are slipping or it was just disingenuous or both. Perhaps, Helene up above -- besides having guts -- has a point. Oh, "Cyd", Charise, we know FREDA is beautiful and I'd say only looks 40-something. I wasn't takin' about the "Band of Gold" lady. Juicey philosophically asking for her # made sense. P.S. JF, didn't U rsvp on THE INTRUDERS' song "I'll Always Love My Mama" file? There's a "M_" wish 4 U by some dude. (Message edited by STONEWALL on May 09, 2004) |

Hey STONEWALL. Yes, I responded early on on that thread! As for Gladys, the young Gladys was very pretty in an earthy, down home way. She was just naturally cute & not overdone, as so many "divas" are. She's like the girl down the block & I find that appealing. As for Aretha, the young Aretha was cute as a button. However, if I am to believe the writings of Tony Turner, regarding her relationship with one Mr Edwards, I'd have to pass. If those musings are true, Miss Ree Ree is one tough customer. Now, I'm a man, but she's just too damn much! |

Juice, I am not a mother, but I will take the happy Sunday, Thank you. Feeling much better than I did on Thurs, but felt ill again Sat. while delivering, I don't know how but got through it. Started feeling better towards the end of the work day, you know yesterday was the food drive and some people use that day as an excuse to clean out their "cubbards" LOL! Actually, it is not funny, because people put out canned foods that are starting to rust and dried goods, like cereal that is 5 yrs old! If you are not going to eat it,why give it to someone else? We are trying to feed people, not kill them! I just have this thing where I check dates on foods, especially since they date them nowadays! When I got back to the office I told a co-worker that I was throwing the bad stuff out, I hope that the people who distribute the food, do check the items to see if they are okay. My co-worker said he saw some juice that was dated 1994!!!! Oh my GOD, now you know that is a shame!!!! Any way, I'm learning & seeing something new, everytime I come here and I am having a blast!!! |

Hey Charise! That's because some folks are just plain trifling. Yes, the food drive is an excuse for some folks to get rid of all of that old Jello & Apple Butter that's been around since the McKinley Administration. I don't believe in giving anyone garbage. If it's not good enough for me to eat or wear, I feel that it's not good enough for anyone else either. Now regarding the 1994 juice: Well Charise, this Juice is 1960 vintage & isn't rotten at all In fact, this Juice is pretty lively, sweet & good for a lady's over-all well being So, tell your co-worker not to discriminate. Tell your co-worker not to be talking bad about me! Just because there will soon be snow on my roof (what's left of it anyway, after the birds have used several parts of it to build their nests), it doesn't mean that there's no fire in the furnace baby! Shoot, the kettle's on the stove & it's whistling baby! Huh? What's that....oh....they meant ORANGE JUICE. Well, ok that's different. Never mind (Message edited by Juicefree20 on May 10, 2004) |

Good morning Helene! You're so sweet!!! Your support in this matter warms the very cockles of my heart, as I see that I have a true supporter in you. As I read your words, I could hear the sweet refrain of Kumbiya, echoing in my head! Your kind words humble me. I am most appreciative of your kind words. I am speechless & as everyone here knows, I am a man of few words! (Alright, no wise cracks!) As long as you're laughing with me & not at me, my feelings will remain intact I digress!!! Nevertheless, if it were possible, my face would be the shade of crimson. As it stands, my pallor is now a lovely combination of caramel brown & red, which I guess would be carabred. In addition, my earlobes have turned red & are hot to the touch. So, I guess that means that I'm blushing. Oh wow, I'm really blushing!!! THERE I SAID IT!!! Yeah I said it....I'm blushing! It takes a manly man to admit that! That's me...Juice...El Mucho Macho baby! I thank you for your loyalty & support in this pressing & most urgent matter! Alas, I fear that it is my fate to go on, longing, aching, wanting & desiring these wanton, impossible dreams of mine. CURSED FATE!!!! How can I go on? I WILL walk with my head held high. Even though I know that It Was Just My Imagination Running Away With Me, I Will Survive these slings & arrows of rejection! You see, One Monkey Don't Stop No Show & if they don't want me, I'll just put it in the Want Ads. They ought to Call Me, I'd even ride the Midnight Train To Georgia for My Girl. Shoot, Everybody's Got The Right To Love Somebody & I ain't wearing no Band Of Gold. Let them go think about that for a moment, HA!!! Hey, these sound like some good titles for songs! I hope that nobody's beaten me to it. Let's see.......Each day through my window, I watch her as she passes by-y. I say to myself...I shoulda changed that stupid lock, I shoulda thrown away that key. If I'd known for just one second...you're such a lucky guy-y-y. Oops, got my songs mixed up! Guess that one would be called: I Will Survive My Imagination (Running Away With Me)! Juice |

Also regarding Gladys. Unlike so many other, I never saw where Gladys changed her look drastically. She never had her nose altered to half it's size. I never saw her lips altered. In short, I never saw her try to escape her blackness. I admire her for that & to me, she was beautiful in an understated way. External glamour is overrated, I'd have taken Gladys over all of those snotty, self-important divas any day of the week. |

Hi Manny my friend! I love everything about women! There is nothing is all of Gods' creation, lovlier than a woman. The only thing better & more pleasing is to see a baby smile when it's sleeping. Now, that's beautiful! However, the beauty of a woman is hard to overlook, God sure made woman beautiful & I appreciate seeing them! Wonder B: I can only say one thing...Calling Doctor Howard, Doctor Fine. Aww man, just call 911! MEDIC!!!! |

I saw FREDA PAYNE in a show with DARLENE LOVE at Michael FEINSTEIN's club in NYC in 2002 at the Waldorf . They were terrific . FREDA looked better than ever. I had seen her at her birthday in 1978 and honest to GOD she looked better than that. I mean she was so warm and kind and friendly and at peace and in good form and just plain stunning and a knockout. I was thriled to see her again and to be received so warmly. I had heard she was nice and she was all that and more. Which differed from our first meeting. I was too much of a slob I think. At least I felt that way being next to her. WOW....VA VA VA VOOM! she is blessed!...I hope to see her again in life . I learned a valuable lesson about judging people from her. And I think she got that!....God love her! |

"Cherish What Is Dear To U While It's Near To U" is a wonderfully upbeat and great message song, which was ironically recorded and released by both FREDA (as a single) and DARLENE (on an album). |
