I have Ms Mary Wells' 1st lp on the white MOTOWN label with the little car logo...'BYE BYE BABY:I DON'T want to take a chance' (is the title of lp).Are these that rare? does anyone know how many other artists had their music distributed with this label version? I know if I drop this lp it will break just like the classic 'where did our love go' did and I wept. i was just a 6 year old baby...this started the paranoia ..who will love my records 'when I'm gone'?....my treasures, they are my enjoyment, my life.....oy |

Motown white labels were, as far as I recall, always the "promtional" copies and were usually, if not always, so noticed, imprinted right on the label. For example, as President of the NATIONAL BRENDA HOLLOWAY FAN CLUB, basically the entire time she was with Motown in the mid- and late 1960s, Motown sent me a dozen white label records for every BH release. I gave them out almost quarterly like Easter candy to the BHFC members. I kept mine! Allllwhite! |

LaBrenda: the Mary Wells LP you have is an original 1961 issue, and depending on the condition of the cover jacket and the record it will be valued up to severval 100's of dollars today, my guess would be at least $300. in very good condition, but remember condition is everything |

Whats up Ron, Hows that lovely, SOULFUL singing voice of yours, my friend? Were the stock Motown lsbels at the time pink with black stripes and the promo white with black stripes, or did it apply only to singles and not l.p.s? |

Eli: I'm doing ok... now just speaking of the Motown label only, yes in the beginning the 45RPM -7 inch records used the striped pink label, and the first LP(by Mary Wells) used the automobile design on a white label...starting with the release of the 2nd LP begin the start of the now famous and still used blue map label, and most promotional copies were on white. |

My brother also has the lp PLAYBOY by the Marve- lettes on Tamla. It is NOT a promotional copy, but an orginal commercial release and has a white Tamla label designed a little different than the normal yellow label. |

Yes, Randy, the first Tamla label was white, or yellow, with "Tamla" on top of globe with record in foreground. The second label was yellow with brown logos, with"Tamla" printed inside globe to right of record. |
