Usually there are big differences between "anthology," "greatest hits," and "best of." - Greatest Hits usually refers to the hit singles versions of an act up to that point in time. - Anthology usually refers to selected cuts from each of an artists albums, hits combined with album cuts, and maybe a special version of a song. - Best Of usually refers to whatever the re-issue producer considers to be the artist's best cuts, whether it be singles or LP tracks. For example, if there is a CD entitled Heatwave Greatest Hits, you might be disappointed if it contains the short edit of "Always & Forever." It fades out after maybe 3 minutes or so. However, this was the actual hit version made for radio, since singles had to be short. I tried to explain all this to my sister some time ago when she prefered the long version. Also, boxed sets commonly contain unreleased tracks, alternate mixes and just a few hits. Make sure you read the fine print and can distinguish between them before you buy them. All this means, however, is that we have lots of nice choices in addition to the original studio albums on CDs by these artists. |
