Watching him on Oprah is so sad. It appears that he's suffered some severe damage. Damn, I hope that he can come back from this. It looks like a long way back. Even having suffered a stroke, he sounds better than half the singers on the charts today. God, do I ever wish him well. He wanted to dance with his father again, I just want to hear Luther sing again Juice |

Hey Juice -- it is indeed so sad, yet how incredible that he has the will to live. Words are failing me here ... I don't even know what to say except Luther and his mom are in my daily prayers. God bless them both, and may God also bless the people who take care of Luther! (Message edited by linda di fsg on May 06, 2004) |

Luther looked great. I was happy to see that he has made it this far. He is trying so hard. His skin is clear, and face is healthy. I wish him the best. His body had shut down. The recording company posted his obit on the web. You saw a miracle on tv today. He came back for a reason. |

Linda & Sis, I'm inclined to agree with you. I'm hoping to see God work his wonders on Luther. That voice is just to wonderful to be stilled like this. When she was alive, Luther was my wife's favorite singer...period. When we saw him at the Soul Train Award show on TV in 2000, he looked so small, that we thought that he was not long for the world. She just cried. Little did we know..... |

It is a blessing to have Luther share his gift with the world. And hopefully God is allowing him to continue to share his gift. The last time I saw Luther, he was temperamental and rude on stage. It just was not his night. I remember all of us, who would go anywhere to see one of his shows, saying that we probably wouldn't be shelling out $100+ in the future to see him having one of his hissy fits. Well, I'm here to say that I would now give my eye teeth to see him perform once again. Hissy fit or not. I'd even pay to see him having just a hissy fit. In retrospect, perhaps his health had begun failing and he just felt like crap that night. It was a year before his stroke. Whatever it was, Luther -- I really didn't mean it. I'll be back! Luther has one of the greatest voices of our time. When I first heard Dance With My Father,I had to pull off the road as I was sobbing so much I couldn't see.It brought back so many memories for me,as I would give my right arm to dance with my own Father again. Looking back and watching his weight go up and down like a yo-yo,all of us know this isn't healthy. But,the last time he slimmed down,I thought he had it under control, because he did it the right way...diet and exercise. What sticks in my head is what I read a few months ago.He had phoned his mother telling her he had a bad headache for 5 or 6 days. She told him to call the Dr.ASAP,and it was the same nite he suffered the stroke. The whole thing just breaks my heart.

Well, I had planned on taping this episode of Oprah, because I was going to be at work, but I was sick, so I watched it and taped it at the same time. I was in tears, because I was happy and sad, but more HAPPY!!!! It was a blessing to see him speak and laugh! I do believe he will be singing until he is 80, like he said. It really makes you think about life and how anything can happen to anyone of us! I am so blessed and glad, that I am able to get up each and every morning to see a new day! We sometimes complain about things that are not really important, but all it takes is a story like Luther's or someone else's and it slaps you right back into reality. When I saw Oprah start to cry,I was done!!! I have been praying since it happened and will continue to so for him and his family. I just love his mother, she, GOD, family, friends and fans have been his saving grace. Thank You GOD!!!! (Message edited by Mistrivia1 on May 07, 2004) |

Lucy & Charisse you both echo my sentiments. I was so overcome with Dance With My Father as I was a daddy's girl. I would my right arm to just glimpse my daddy again! I thank God for the father I was blessed to have as he was a wonderful father, husband and human being. |

I was at work when the show was being aired. I heard he wore ark glasses. Is there damage to his sight? From the photos I did see, he looks healthy.

I saw the Oprah show with Luther and was very impressed with the progress he has made. He was very alert and communicated with Oprah even though their he had a slight slur. When Oprah spoke with his mother, she said "she knew that all the prayers that were offered up by all his friends and fans were heard". She said "when the prayers go up the blessings come down", I'm glad that the SD family participated in making the blessings come down. |

Yes Nosey, Luther is walking with assistance, it is a very grueling task and it tires him out. He is in a wheelchair, and during most of the show Oprah wheeled him around. |

I know one thing....Luther has a song that just wrecks my thoughts...'For You To Love' - on the 'Any Love' album. THAT undoubtedly is my favorite Luther song. What a great way to tell someone that you are falling in love with them. It is my sincere hope that Luther makes a miraculous recovery...but it is obvious that he is a long way from it. Ill take ANY note he can sing right now. His will to want to sing is good enough for me, his spirit to survive is well noted. GOd is blessing him...and his family. |

I read where En Vogue toured with Luther and referred to him as "Lucifer"....hmmmm. Guess they weren't as big as fans as we are. But, working with someone is not like just listening to their CD'S. |

Good Evenng! Hi Medusa. Luther did wear sunglasses, but when they asked him to read a eyechart, he was able to read it. His speech has been affected as well. It sounds as though his tongue's a bit thick, that slurred sound. |

You Know, folks, Luther doesn't need our prayers that he will ever perform again, because those are prayers for us, for our entertainment(smile!) He needs prayers that ask for his ability to LIVE his life, and LIVE that life to the fullest... If he never sings another song, or performs on stage, I will always smile when I hear these words... I still remember in the days when I was scared to touch you - How I'd spend my days dreamin', planning how to say, I love you - You must've know that I had feelings deep enough to swim in - That's when you opened up your heart, and you told me to come in... With the words to that song, me and Luther became unstoppable, a dynamic duo, where a chair was still a chair with many pretty faces sitting there(smile!) He's owes me nothing... He gave me a powerful soundtrack for the 1980's, which I used to great advantage(smile!) He doesn't need my tears of sorrow, because he aint dead... And as long as he lives, I want for him to live his life to the fullest! Who needs to go to work to hustle for another dollar - I'd rather be with you, 'cause you make my heart scream and HOLLA! Hear the words to your song, Luther Vandross, and get on up! I've always heard them Harlem cats was rough and tough, Don't You Know That? Deep down, I know you do, and that's how I know you aint got time for my tears if you're gonna get up outta that wheelchair... God be with you on this arduous journey, Luther, Superstar... It's gonna be So Amazing when they all see you Creepin' through Harlem again - If Only For One Night... Peace! Isaiah |

What's up Isaiah! Now that's the big picture. I never thought about it until you put it that way. Yes, from a selfish point of view, I want to hear him sing again. I know that's Luther's mom's dream as well. Hell, we all do. It's just that in a world filled with ugliness & strife, Luther's voice is a thing of beauty. We need more beauty in this world. However, you are right on point with your words & when everything is said & done, I'd be happy just to see Luther be able to do something that most of us take for granted.....walk! Peace! Juice |

It is good to see that he is doing good. He probably can get into producing and songwriting if he can't sing anymore, which I am hoping that that doesn't happen. I would miss it, trust me! |
