Can anyone confirm or does anyone know of Gamble's writing/producing the Swans' Cameo single "The Boy With The Beatle Hair"? Also, was he involved with the Saphires on the Swan label--"Who Do You Love?" Thanks, Randy |

Yes Randi, Kenny Gamble wrote the song, along with Jerry Ross, arranger Joe Renzetti and Billy "The Kid" Jackson. There are no producer credits on the record, but I'm guessing that, like so many others from that era, it was a Gamble/Ross Production. And, YES, "Who Do You Love" was written by Gamble and Ross. Joe Renzetti arranged it. It was listed as a Ross Associates Production, but I imagine Gamble helped Jerry on that one. (Message edited by Robb_K on May 06, 2004) |

FYI--The swans and the Mello Moods are one and the same..Jean and Tina Thomas. They also were the girls who sang backup on all of those Bobby Rydell records. |

Hey Brother BOBBY, were (are) The Swans also known as Alice In Wonderland? I have 2wo 45's of "HE'S MINE" by the Swans, and HE'S MINE by Alice In Wonderland, no difference in sound or voices. Kick A-- song, just one of the many songs from the girl groups that i love playing the drums to. This is on our song list to be played at our doo-wop dinner dance tomorrow night. PS. do you have the picture that you took of me holding my CODY HI-SCHOOL boxing glove? The S-----toe. "COUNT"

He's Mine by Alice Wonder Land was very popular in Miami and she came and performed. I saw the picture of her in the paper and from what I remember I couldn't tell what she was. |

Heres that infamous pic , Count! Wish I coulda got the Thompson!! Also, regarding Swans, they sang on most of the sessions pre Sweeties and were sometimes told to sound "pop"(read white" as on the Bobby Rydellrecords. I believe that they sang on the Alice Wonderland record but someone else went out on the road as this ficticious person, hence the swans and Alice being the same record. |

Eli, Do you remember Tootie & the Bouquets on Parkway label--"The Conqueror". It was a Martha & the Vandellas sounding record. Who were they? |

Randy, Tootie and the Bouquets may have been Candy and the Kisses as a nom de plume. Cameo and Swan did a lot of that kind of "bogus" stuff back then to capitalize on aparticular genre or current dance craze or sound. |

Hey ELI! Just enjoying the music. I read about the funeral of John Whitehead in the Philadelphia Inguirer. What a tragic lost. One of my favorite songs written by him is "Cold Cold World" by Teddy Pendergrass. What a beautiful song. I'll call you soon. Yoyoshep. |
