One of my favorite love songs was recorded by Dorothy Moore "Misty Blue" and another was "There's Just Something About You" by Bo Williams(used to sing with his brothers)...these 2 artists are never really talked about a lot. They both went back to the gospel root of music but are not as popular as they were in secular music. Does anyone have any update or info on either artist, or do you know any other artist of gospel who should've stayed with secular music? Al Green "Put It On Paper" with Ann Nesbitt... and it was good. |

I thought Dorothy Moore was back on the blues circuit. I love her rendition of "Misty Blue." Isn't she the one who also record Lionel Ritchie's tune "Jesus Is Love?" If it is her, she is blowing Lionel out of the water, on his own song. |

yes, she did record that song, on her gospel album Sis, I have that Album. She does a nice job on "What Is This" also, but I really hope she does make a comeback in secular music. |

Hi! Dorothy Moore came back to secular from gospel, if I remember correctly, over ten years ago, has since continued to record for Malaco in the 90s and has now within the last two years released two cd's on her own label - a Christmas and a Live one. Her next studio album is planned to come out in October. Denise LaSalle also tried gospel for one album, but she wasn't very well received in those circles, so now she's back to secular again )on Ecko Records). Best regards Heikki |

Hi everyone, Great to see one of my favourite singers mentioned! Dorothy recorded some really nice stuff for Malaco, both in the seventies and after her comeback to secular music in the 90's. Her "Misty Blue" (1976) album is a classic southern soul album, and both "Feel The Love" (1990) and "More Moore" are very fine albums by any standard. Most of them are still available, either at places such as amazon.com or straight from the Malaco web site: http://www.shopmalaco.com/blue s/Dorothy_Moore.html According to reviews I've read, one reason that artists like Moore are not more well-known (apart from their big hits) is that today their records hardly get any air play in the Northern parts of the US-which is a shame, really. Well, Dorothy Moore is certainly still popular down south, as can be witnessed on her "live" CD, where she gets a rapturous response from the audience in Shreveport, Louisiana! Here is a nice Dorothy Moore web site written and designed by Mississippi high school students: http://shs.starkville.k12.ms.u s/mswm/MSWritersAndMusicians/m usicians/Moore.html Eva |

Hi Medusa! Actually Dorothy's gospel album, Givin' It Straight To You (on Word/Rejoice), was released as early as in 1986. As far as I know that's the only one in that genre that she did. There was an album in 1998 called Songs To Love By (on 601 Music), but that's a collection of her earlier (mostly secular) Malaco sides. What is the album you have ? Best regards Heikki

You know Heikki, I think you are right, it just doesn't seen that long ago. I have the same album "Givin' It Staight To You". So what has she been doing lately, as far as secular music? Personally I haven't heard anything from her, in a very long time. |

Dorothy Moore is alive and well. I saw her at the Handys and was pleased to introduce her to Bettye LaVette. (I'm equally pleased that I work for both of them.) Dorothy has started her own record label, "Farish Street Records," and has two releases, a Christmas CD and a live CD with recordings made over the past decade, including a duet with Eddie Floyd on "When Something Is Wrong With My Baby." She's currently working on a new studio CD that is going to mix some standards with new material. She's in great voice and will be doing dates in Europe this summer, including the Poretta Soul Festival. The CDs are available at: http://www.geocities.com/ppinn /

Hello Everyone Joe Simon has a gospel album out called "This Story Must Be Told" in 1998 and won a grammy for it. If I not mistaken he stopped singing secular music in 1988 and is now a preacher and is a co pastor of a church outside of Chicago. T.L. Harris |

Hi, all...I'm very new to the Forum and look forward to learning so much. One of my very favorite artists of the 60s/70s is Ruby Winters ("I Will", "Guess Who"). I hear she is singing Gospel now? Any updates on Ms. Winters and if she still records? |

Eli, I was just playing a few Candy Staton songs~ When You Wake Up Tomorrow Youg Hearts Run Free Nights On Broadway That Lady can blow, I still wish she would come back to secular music full time, just for an album or something. I think I heard something somewhere about her doing some new recordings or something like that, but not with the so-called bad songs on it...whatever that means. |

Howard Hewitt-Say Amen has always ben a fave of mine. The Dells recorded a song I wrote called God Helps Those Who Help Themselves, originally recorded by the Gospelaires of Dayton Ohio. I am working on Gospel project with Janice Mc Clain and also by a new artist named Maurice Gold who is a wonderful up and coming Gospel singer with somewhat of an original flavor. |
