Hi Mike! This is hard but without thinking about it I'll name two that came right to mind, a single artist and a group (aside from all Jimmy's work )! I assume we're talking vynal here: 1. "Prisoner Of Love" - James Brown 2. "Back On Top" - The O'Jays Mike, there's just too many good albums to name even just one or two!! S.S. |

There really is no question about it -- and I don't mean a California Hotel! Best Greatest Hits: DIANA ROSS & THE SUPREMES, Vol. 1 & 2 (1967). In fact, it is so great that it is the first "greatest hits" album in history to go to #1 -- on every chart, bi the way -- and only the second double album in history to go to #1 -- the first was "Judy Garland Live at The Palace". Plus, besides the incredible #1 hit music, the open-up album included several popular "B" sides and those fabulous, full-size, pastel-colored, very suitable-for-framing individual portrait pix of DIANA, MARI and FLO. Hey, Mr. Chancellor and all!, Some "greatest hits" favorites: The Intruder's "Super Hits". I knows that the spanish edition is different, includes as "bonus tracks" the two seventies tunes "She's A Winner" and "I'll Always Love My Mama". "End Of Phase One (All Their Greatest Hits)" by MFSB, because i don't have the first album and i likes the instrumental of "Backstabbers" and Curti's cover of "Freddie's Dead". Also, "The Best of Billy Paul" double LP (at the time i buy it i discovered here in this album some gems previously unknowns for me as "My Old Flame" and "You're My Sweetness"). If can be considered as a greatest hits, "Looking Back" triple album by Stevie Wonder and also the 4 x Lp's box "Steve Wonder Collection" that resumed respectively the two periods of Stevie (60's and 70's-first 80's respectively). Also I have had and liked "Collector's Items" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes that i give to a friend because i buy some albums thta contains all the titles. Hey, dear Ms. Soul Sister, I believe that the titles of the compilation "Workin' In Your Case" and "Back On Top" by O'Jays are practically the same. I got the first and likes it a lot (if can consider a hits compilation). Finally, another two greatest hits faves of mine are "Golden Classics" by Delfonics (Collectables Records) and "Greatest Hits vol. 2" by Smokey Robinson & The Miracles Peace & Soul Food |

Hello everyone. I'd nominate "The Temptations Greatest Hits" or "The Best of Sam and Dave". They were both L.Ps I had (actually the Temptations one belonged to my sister ) back in my "formatative years". Manny and Soul Sister .. Is that O'JAYS "Back on Top" L.P. you refer to the same as the one that they recorded for Bell records with GEORGE KERR with "I'll Be Sweeter Tomorrow", "I Dig Your Act" etc. Or is it a compilation of their United Artists material? in which case they must have two L.P.s with the same title. Hello again, soulful friends! Hello, Roger, In a thread about The O'Jays in the old forum (around two months ago) I told that i got the "Working In Your Case" album wich is a collection of their Liberty years with HB Barnum. Somebody posted a track list of "Back On Top" and I believe is very similar to the "Working In Your Case". Also is possibly that i don't well remember and really was similar to the "Live!" album on MFP records wich is a collection of their Bell sides recorded live and i'm confussed one album to another. (??) I have also a Atlantic records "The Best Of Sam & Dave", re-edited in the first 80's. And some volumes of Atlantic's "Supersoul" (best of), but today only keeps the Ray Charle's volume. Peace & Soul Food! (PD: Hey Roger, if you e-mail me i can recuperate your adress. My old computer by now don't function and i should use the web-site of the mail administrator until i can use the e-mail directly from my new computer. Thanks, friend) |

As to vinyl, The Miracles "Greatest Hits, From The Beginning" can't be beat. I can't speak for CDs, as I know virtually nothing of what's been released. I imagine many, many CD "greatest hits" albums have been released that blow away any vinyl releases (due to sheer number of cuts per CD, and also a more historical view in packaging. |

Ive lost track which greatest hits album of Aretha's it is but I had it on the other day and on came Im In Love and she hits those notes at the end and I almost drove off the highway --thought I was gonna join that Angel Carolyn in heaven--which I had just heard too. I may not be playing that cd much more-at least on the highway--it's truly a spiritual experience. |
