Lowell and David, It is easy to get wrapped up in all the wonderful threads of discussion here in the forum. One topic often overlooked is cost of the Forum and SD as a whole. I have contributed and prize my SD-45 for example. I hope the sale has helped offset costs. Considering SD's popularity, I must express my concern for your continued funding and offer my help on behalf of everyone in the forum. Leo B

Thanks, Leo. I've been meaning to post this exact message, as Lowell and David should not have to ask. Everyone: Click on "Support This Site" at the top of this page once in a while. |

Many thanks Leo/Uptight for raising this issue again. We plan to be around for many years but will need support to do this. I think weve only sold a couple of the 45s so there are plenty left. (Message edited by david meikle on May 05, 2004) |

David, I'll be with you during the week. I always wondered what the overhead must be. Hell, my posts alone are enough to stress this system to the point of bursting If you could, could you explain this process & what it entails off-line. Just what does maintaining a site such as this entail? I'm kind of new to all of this & I find it fascinating! Juicefree@hotmail.com I'd appreciate hearing from you! JF20 That detail must remain confidential as it is Lowell's livlihood. Try pricing a server-software etc for starters. Right now the project has cost ME many thousands of dollars but I put most of that down to fun and, believe it or not, payback for the enjoyment provided by the people I genuinely worship. David |

Dear D, L, R and A: As promised, the S.V.A. will be sending S.D.F. a contribution check. Last month, also as promised, we added the website link from the S.V.A. website to the S.D.F. To see the link, U can visit: www.STONEWALLvets.org/songsofS tonewall-8.htm. That link is appropriately in the =very= popular "Songs of The Stonewall" section and on the last in the series of 8 files, which happens to be the Inkster Girls: THE MARVELETTES. Any other suggestions, please let us know. Don't be shy! Thanx! Stonewall

Wow David!! Those are a lot of dead presidents. I'll follow your advice, as I do find this to be fascinating. I do understand the pleasure that you must derive when you see folks like Bobby E, Weldon, Dennis, Jack, Randy, etc. here, sharing their experiences. Sometimes, when I read their accounts & the accounts of our members, if I close my eyes, I can imagine everything clearly. It's a wonderful thing! |

JF20 So the term "dead presidents" has meaning? Please elaborate. David |

DMeikle - LOL, the pictures of the US presidents on the US currency (money), are all dead. LOL. In fact, when you come here in July, I will give you some dead presidents myself. LOL |

Lowell and David, In my short time here I have come to truly appreciate this site. I know nothing about how these things are set up and maintained, so please forgive me if I sound naive or echo the words of someone else. Would it not be feasible to request an annual subscription from the contributors? I subscribe to Friends Reunited and think nothing of handing over my money in return for something that pales into insignificance when compared to SDF. Any other fund raising could be in addition. |

Thanks Helene. I leave this side of things to Lowell and so far he has rejected the notion. He prefers donations. However, less than 10% of those registered are currently helping to keep the site alive. David

All, Hey David & Helene. I brought this subject up months ago - and I still feel that it is a viable idea. One of the reasons some might not contribute is because - they just won't take the time to do it. I'm sure all of us could fork ova a certain amount a year. But when the idea of donations is brought up every once and awhile - some folks just forget - or don't think theirs could possibly make a difference. It is not that they don't care, for instance. Besides - in order to post - one should gladly be willing to contribute - IMO. Just reading is something else again. And the ones that have contributed have done their part - to the extent they feel obligated, I'm sure. Anyway - an annual membership fee does not seem out of line in the least - IMO. I think I suggested $30.00 a year - and as Helene stated - donations for other causes can be requested - when decided. Just my 3 cents. Btw - STUBASS - come on back - bro. We still haven't finished arguing whom the Best Male Singer of all times is. LOL! I feel you though David. And you and Lowell have every right to ask for contributions. You all are providing a great service - and more and more folks are learning about this website each day it seems. Pray on it.

All, You are welcome David. After all, many will miss this site if it closes because of lack of funding. I will be making a donation soon. "Sharing", is the most key and common denominator when speaking on the purpose of this website, seemingly - and IMO. It'll all work out. "Brothers & Sisters Gone Work it Out." Willie Hutch.

If a membership fee had been required, how many important posts would not have been submitted? Would Laura Lee have dropped in if she had to pay a fee to say hi ? The donations are more risky but they are also more flexible and makes the site more accessible to new members. (I'll be making a donation in june. That Dynamics 45 sure looks nice ) |

All, The person mentioned and whomever else - wouldn't have this website to pop into - if it closed down. I can't imagine they would mind paying the one time annual fee - but I could be wrong. The bottom line seems to me to be - that maintaining a website of this caliber must cost hard cold cash - else the owners of it wouldn't have ever mentioned how much it costs to maintain - or mention the fact that they would appreciate donations, because they NEED them. And....... if only 10% of all registered members have made donations - then what should the owners have to do to ensure each and every member (the other 90%) feels so inclined? Is it fair to the ones contributing that the other 90% benefit in some way - but are unwilling to CONSIDER helping out? What's that old saying - "To own it - you've got to claim it", or something to that affect. And the members will have some type of ownership of this website - in their own giving way if they claim it by securing and protecting it, thereby; having access to it - period. I am sure we all have our responsibilities and bills, just like David & Lowell do. Why would they proclaim they need help in keeping it going if they didn't? And why should they have to struggle and go broke to keep it going? They shouldn't have to - nor will they - IMO. I'm sure they love providing this website for us all to enjoy - yet they mainly are just (GIVERS) for what all of us (TAKERS) are the beneficiaries of, and from what we take away from it. In other words - if maintaining this website is hurting them financially - then why - oh why - should they keep it operating? It is an operation, after all. Receiving a few cents a click - evidently isn't cutting it. I mean no harm against the folks that just pop in once every now and then. But perhaps - they are not the ones that eat this website up. And then again perhaps - they too have already made donations. The bottom line tally must add up to the fact that the 10% ain't enough "Money - Money - Money - Money" and "Ain't A High Enough Mountain." David, Sis definitely clarified my slang term. So, expect a package from the firm of Washington, Lincoln & Hamilton aka Da Dead Pres'. By themselves, they're cool but, they're even better when they come together. Sometimes, they even come as twins. Expect a visit from these fine gentlemen! I'll let them know to ask for David or Lowell. Now, make sure that you all treat them right & make them feel good & welcome Juice |
